Pappy,
Scott Patterson who I think you know, told me to tell you he'd be there to
assist/fly back seats. Scott's a YAK 52 owner and FAST lead pilot.

I have found rooms for the upcoming clinic Jan 15 (thurs)
through the 18th
(sunday) at
bargain rates as I prefer to spend on Avgas vs hotel
rooms. The Days Inn
(912-285-4700)
will have rooms at the group rate of $38 + tx in the name
of Red Star Pilots
Assoc. There
are other hotels nearby on Highway 1 so the van could
make stops along the
route. There
is a Holiday, Hampton, Comfort Inn; the Super 8 is sold
out.

Mr. Johnson is obviously not stupid. He had to be aware of the possibility of stronger
than expected headwinds. And, with that awareness, he most certainly considered
McMurdo and Pole Stations as emergency alternates. Furthermore, he knew
that if he attempted to make any advanced arrangements with the US Government
to use those bases he would have been rebuffed because he knew they discourage
adventureism. He took his changes and he got bit. His plane is going to get
shipped to NZ, as well it should. As to the observation on this list that the
USCG rescues yachts stuck in the ice, of course they do. Had Johnson crashed
they would have searched for him and given him medical attention. There is a
big difference between saving lives and supporting irresponsibility. I've been
to Antarctica and I know the subject.
Antarctica may as well be a part of another planet, not this one. I've flown across
it in a C-130. I've walked on it, slept on it, and seen first hand the scientific
work that is going on there. I've been caught in a white-out without
proper gear due to my own carelessness and I've had associates who were killed
there.

Let's just hope he doesn't have something else pop up and interfere. That
happens often with Scotty. But you didn't hear that from me.
Happy holidays,
Dennis

Hi Frank,
I guess it all depends on your frame of reference mate.I spend that much time upside
down in my Chang down here in OZ that I reckon by your sandards, I am the
right way up! I do get over to the States a bit so next time I get some time,
I'll look you up so you can tell me how good the 52 is whilst I drink your beer.
I am happy to reciprocate if any of you guys want to come down here and fly
a 'mans' plane and drink some real beer!
Cheers Mate
Egon.
