I think the real "problem" is the fat wings which is something I'm NOT going to mess with. However, I am experimenting some with the cowl on my CJ, modest changes at first to see what the effects are. As far as those LoPresti cowls go, my slow CJ beat the LoPresti Mooney's time in a race. On the other hand, the "Wholey Cowl" Comanche 400's whupped me good. Everything is aviation is relative. In the Yak 52 you need to TOTALLY empty the normal system after using the emergency air before recharging so that the valve between the two systems can reset. I thought that might be the problem as well, but if one of the shuttle valves was sticking, would'nt that only affect its own particular gear leg? Is it likely that all three are sticking??? Cheers Egon. y ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 08:23:09 AM PST US From: Brian Lloyd Subject: Re: Yak-List: Fuel feed --> Yak-List message posted by: Brian Lloyd Walt Lannon wrote: > A second item is the difference in length of the main tank vent > lines. You must replace them in the tank with the same number of gallons of air. 15 gallons of air per hour is not enough to see any significant pressure drop across the vent line unless there is some other restriction in the line. -- Brian Lloyd 6501 Red Hook Plaza, Suite 201 brian@lloyd.com St. Thomas, VI 00802 +1.340.998.9447 - voice +1.360.838.9669 - fax GMT-4 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 09:05:29 AM PST US From: "Jim Selby" Subject: RE: Yak-List: Re: Gear fails to retract --> Yak-List message posted by: "Jim Selby" Gear Problem Empty both systems to zero then fill the system, this will move the shuttle valve back to it's normal position. Yes, the first TW (my plane) had bugs, some small and some very big. And, yes, I did bitch about them. In my opinion, Aerostar rushed the delivery of the prototype (my plane) before getting all the bugs solved. However, as far as warranty is concerned, George and Cliff Coy fixed ALL these bugs...*at no charge to me*. They replaced the first engine (bad super charger seals) with a brand new one (and threw in electric start at no charge). They redesigned/rebuilt the landing gear and gear doors (Aerostar sent a team from Romania with parts, jigs, etc. just to fix my gear), fixed the oil filter system, fuel tanks, wing tips, instrument panel, vacuum pump, cowl seals, cowl flaps, and more. My TW is now a bug-free machine! George and Cliff honored my warranty 100 percent, and beyond. Since mine was the prototype, I think most TW buyers after me have had a lot fewer problems. You guys owe me. :-) Finally, while my plane spent a lot of time at GESOCO getting stuff fixed, I have flown 99% of the 225 hours on it to date...and I LOVE IT. I still think it's the best buy, for the money spent, in aviation. The hardest one to get to is the on the firewall just above the front rudder bar. It isn't hard to do them all, about a 2 hour job at leisurely pace. I lub them with a airtool. Make sure the brass valve inside has no burrs and the spring is free and lub too.
