Its a British cultural thing that reflects a deep seated insecurity in dealing with people who don't respect or understand the restrictions of the rigid class/authority system that they were taught to fear when young (ie like "fearing" God). They know intellectually that their tendency to bow to authority in all circumstances is crazy, so the only defense they have is to insult anybody who suggests they're wrong. I would bet $50 that Mark is an exceptionally accommodating and polite guy in person, that's the flip side of the same issue. Outside of his own culture he makes himself look like a bit of an idiot. I'm sure there are many on the Yak List who would argue his points and even from the reference of UK operations verses the relative freedom we have in the Colonies. Don't allow him the pleasure of his troll remarks, leave them lie. And in reality I believe him to be quite tongue-in-cheek observing the emoticons at the end of each post. --> Yak-List message posted by: cpayne@joimail.com On the subject of Round (2-1/2") Radios, such as the Becker 4201, I notice that Aircraft Spruce sells an "XCOM 760" radio which fits the 2-1/2" hole, monitors a 2nd frequency just like the Apollo, and can be dialed down into the Nav frequency range...all for a bargain price. Anyone familiar with this radio? Seems like only Spruce carries it. My poor old-fashioned CJ did not come with a modern Russian radio and I need a second com to go with my King radio. Just received a PMA4000 intercom/audio panel that will do the switching work. Craig Payne

--> Yak-List message posted by: Harry Hirschman <hairball192@yahoo.com> I've got a MicroAir 760 in my E-3. I've been very happy with it and with the austrailian parent company. I had to send it back to them for a repair after it was well out of warranty. I had diagnosed the problem stateside and they decided it shouldn't have happened at any time and sent me a replacement radio free of charge without making me wait for them to see the original unit first. Some would say that having trouble with it in the first place indicates a problem but I disagree. We all are accustomed to very high quality and desire that we experience no trouble with our electronics. But I believe that all things mechanical and electrical will eventually fail so the company behind them matters. Beckers are easier to get serviced in the US, no doubt. MicroAir is working to get repair facilities up and running here but they don't have 'em yet. I was very pleased with the integrity of the folks back at MicroAir HQ and am happy to report that they stood behind their product when they could have easily hidden behind the "out of warranty" shield. Haven't had any trouble with the unit since. Was just on their web site, http://www.mcp.com.au/xcom760/build1509/main-page.html, and unfortunately the radio is not shipping until Q1-2004. I'm seriously going to consider installing one because of the standby freq. monitoring feature you mentioned plus the built in voice activated intercom. I just wish it were 24/28V so we don't have to install another voltage converter. --> Yak-List message posted by: "Roy O. Wright" <roy@wright.org> One of the hardest flying tasks that I've discovered is changing frequencies while bouncing around. So what I want to see in a radio is voice recognition. Shouldn't be too major of a task, we have a very limited vocabulary and good mics. Imagine reading back the next frequency to ATC and then having the freq appear in the stand-by. The SL line of radios are very nice. The only problem I've had is on a very congested tower freq (ADS), the standard 10W radios won out to the SL's 8W. On the monitor a second freq, I use that all the time for ATIS/AWOS/121.5. Very nice! Occasionally when ATC is really congested and I really need ATIS, I still have to bring up the second COMM, but the majority of the time, monitor is good enough. Happy Holidays! Harry I have never found frequency presets to be of particular use since ATC has a habit of changing them. Selecting a frequency from a preset is not that much easier than just dialing the new frequency into the radio. I have had a couple of radios with this feature and I just quit trying to use it. However, the second-frequency-monitor function is a godsend. -- Brian Lloyd 6501 Red Hook Plaza, Suite 201 brian@lloyd.com St. Thomas, VI 00802 +1.340.998.9447 - voice +1.360.838.9669 - fax GMT-4

Music Off for pilot when receiving (or on) or On for passengers, Ie: no ATC. Handles up to 4 passengers. Before anybody complains that the CJ-6 only holds 2, has anyone seen Hal's baggage bay in "8". My Hard Earned (pension) dollars are going into the PMA4000 intercom/audio panel, and one of those new XCOMs for COM2. Avionics industry rumor has it that Aircraft Spruce purchased the company. I've called the ISP and they are looking into the problem and may do intrusive testing on the line at some point this afternoon/evening. For the most part, things seem to be working right now, but the line will drop out every once in a while for 2 to 3 minutes. This problem will effect connections to the Matronics Web server as well as distribution of List mail. I will post a follow up when the problem has been resolved... Hopefully later today. captjmreed@compuserve.com, Mentor441@aol.com --> Yak-List message posted by: KingCJ6@aol.com While somewhat "off subject" for this list, most seem at least somewhat patriotic so here goes: many of us have spare miles in our frequent flyer accounts. These can be easily donated to help a military person get home while on leave, especially important for many hardship cases. "About Operation Hero Miles In September 2003, the Pentagon started giving soldiers stationed in Iraq two-week leaves in the largest R & R program since the Vietnam War. Soldiers on R & R or Emergency Leave are flown by the military to Germany or three airports in the United States, Baltimore/Washington, (BWI), Dallas/FortWorth, (DFW), or Atlanta, (ATL ) for free. The soldiers have been responsible for flights the rest of the way in the U.S. to their destinations, until Congress provided funding for this purpose on November 3, 2003. However, this funding is not yet available and may not be sufficient for all the troops or troops on "Emergency Leave"." Then site is www.heromilesorg. Thanks, Dave

Does anyone know where I might obtain any other kits of the 52 in other scale? Also I hope all have a wonderful and safe holiday. ~John --- Incoming mail is certified Virus Free. I agree it is not a copy, but to profess it is a completely original design is a fallacy. Now on to the real argument; which one is the red-headed stepchild :-) D.
