--> Yak-List message posted by: Matt Dralle <dralle@matronics.com> Dear Listers, First let me apologize for the discontinuity of List service over the last two days. There is a faulty transmit pair between here and the "B-Box" and I have been having a heck of a time trying to get the phone company motivated to fix it. I am now trying to get them to take one of the analog phone circuits to temporary get the T1 line circuit up. They are indicating that to repair the existing T1 circuit they must dig up a cross-connect in the street which will require a Permit from the City! Who knows how long that will take to complete. For now, connectivity is intermittent, but working. Email should flow fine, although web server access may be a little sporadic. I'm working as hard as I can at getting the situation resolved, but with the holiday and all, its just been a nightmare. I will post more information as it becomes available... Again, my apologies; I thought upgrading to a commercial-grade T1 would elevate my connectivity issues once and for all... Wish me luck! Matt Dralle Matronics Email List Admin. --> Yak-List message posted by: Drew Eginton <deginton@marketswitch.com> I would like to nominate myself early for the 2003 Darwin Awards (Seller: "Oh, I've sold a hundred of these and no one ever needed a pre-buy; I'll take care of any squawks and I'll never, ever let you down." Drew: "Okay.") but that's another story. (MUST .... NOT .... A-A-ARGHH .... AIR ... DIRTY .... ARGHHHHH .... LAUNDRY!) Okay, the latest pneumatics problem has me down, hard. Went out for some Christmas loop-de-loops in my Yak-50, and discovered another air system failure: this time my main air system rotary valve seems to have sprung a leak; when I plugged in my breathing air tank there was massive, audible leaking (blasting, really) that continued when I closed the value. And the system pressure bled to zero in five minutes. No idea how this happened, since the plane's been sitting for a couple of weeks. I now have entries in my logbook for "Scratching head, contemplating pneumatics, and thinking vain thoughts of seller instead of flying." Anyhow, I can't fix it where it's tied down. It's outside, near my office, so that (under the theory that it would operate) I could fly during the work week. (Of course I mostly just drive around to sources for compressed breathing air -- I'm making a market -- and otherwise deny and avoid the recurring thought that I bought a plane I know nothing about without a pre-buy, because the seller told me to.) So I need to get enough air into the system to quickly start it, then fly it to my hangar 40 miles away, then go to school on pneumatics. (Reminds me of what one of my professors said; As a photographer, he said, I make a pretty good writer. Well, as an A&P, I make a pretty good stick and rudder guy.) Maybe sometime in 2005 I'll be able to fly for fun again. Okay, here's the big question: I've reviewed my POH; I believe that if I do get the thing started I can just fly it with the gear down and locked. Is this correct? My understanding is that when the gear is down and locked, it doesn't need primary air system pressure to stay locked. Further, I understand Vsub-le is 200 kph. So, get the thing started, fly to Winchester with gear down at 200 and locked, put in hangar, start reading cyrillic. Here's the second question: Is there an A&P, who is recommended based on first-hand experience, who knows this aircraft, within 150 miles of Leesburg, VA? Thanks, and Merry Christmas. And tomorrow I am going to drown my frustrations in Jet A: flying a Fouga, and not taking an air tank. --drew =============== Drew Eginton Chairman, CEO & President Marketswitch Corporation 108 Powers Court Dulles, VA 20166 www.marketswitch.com vox: 703.444.6873 efax: 703.783.8696 assistant: Laura Meltzer: 703.444.6750 ext. 232

If so, you may need to resort to the "Fred Flintstone" method if you have no air for the pneumatic brakes. Dave
