Looks easy. Thanks. I may install the strips today. One more question. I note you have EZ Heat strips on your aircraft. They make a number of models, none specifically for the Yak. Any idea what model or size is on yours? Thanks. So good I added one to my Cub. We have two of the model 440. One is on the oil tank reservoir. The other is on the case. I would buy straight from the company www.e-zheat.com as they are great to work with. The application is easy but you have to follow the steps as listed. If you do not and any air is trapped under the pad then it will burn out and you start all over. This happened to us on the oil tank as it has a slight curve to it. Clean it well by stripping the brown paint and cleaning with MEK. Then hold the pad tightly as it adheres. it helps to have some one else to plug it in for 5-10 sec's to heat the adhesive as you hold it. After the first pad burned up the company replaced it no questions asked. They were a pleasure to deal with. The bulk of the oil is heated to about 150 F in the tank. Their web site shows how the cylinders heat up with a pad on the case. This does not happen on our plane. The case is warm but the cylinders do not warm up like their tests show. This is somewhat understandable at our temps of 10-15F also with 9 cylinders on the radial may make a difference. If you have the front shutters you can close them and retain more heat then we do on the 52TW. It sure does make for a nicer flight in the winter to warm up and taxi for 15 minutes instead of 45 minutes like we did before. (nothing to do with Aerostar Romania!!) The team consists of 7 x YAK 50 now, however at the time of the filming some YAK 52's were in the team. Load www.quicktime.com first if you don't have it. Merry Christmas to you all! A Different Kind of Christmas Poem The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight. The sparkling lights in the tree, I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve. My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep In perfect contentment, or so it would seem. So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream. The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear. Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow. My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear, And I crept to the door just to see who was near. Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight. A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold. Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child. "What are you doing?" I asked without fear "Come in this moment, it's freezing out here! Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve, You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!" For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift, Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts, To the window that danced with a warm fire's light Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right, I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night" "It's my duty to stand at the front of the line, That separates you from the darkest of times. No one had to ask or beg or implore me, I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me. My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December," Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers." My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam And now it is my turn and so, here I am. I've not seen my own son in more than a while, But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile. Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, The red white and blue... an American flag. "I can live through the cold and the being alone, Away from my family, my house and my home, I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat, I can carry the weight of killing another Or lay down my life with my sister and brother who stand at the front against any and all, to ensure for all time that this flag will not fall." "So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright Your family is waiting and I'll be all right." "But isn't there something I can do, at the least, "Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast? It seems all too little for all that you've done, For being away from your wife and your son." Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, "Just tell us you love us, and never forget To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone. To stand your own watch, no matter how long. For when we come home, either standing or dead, To know you remember we fought and we bled is payment enough, and with that we will trust. That we mattered to you as you mattered to us. WE ALL NEED TO PRAY FOR OUR MILITARY PERSONNEL EVERY NIGHT, THEY ARE IN SOME VERY, VERY TIGHT PLACES. Always Yakin, Doug Sapp - ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 01:13:27 PM PST US Subject: Yak-List: EZ-Heat Pads From: "John W. Hilterman Jr." MIME_QP_LONG_LINE --> Yak-List message posted by: "John W. Hilterman Jr." I purchased directly from EZ-Heat and installed two sets of pads on my Yak-50. The first one was the 540 which comes with two separate pads and one plug and the second one was the 270 (if I remember correctly) which has one pad and one plug. I installed the 540 pads on each side of my oil cooler and the 270 on the front sump per the instructions. I then wired all three pads into one plug which the manufacturer said was fine to do and routed the plug up to the oil tank cap for easy accessibility. I didn=B9t like the RTV compound they supplied so I went to my local auto store and bought some better quality, high heat RTV. Spent a lot of time masking off the pads so the RTV looked good once cured. Stuff is a mess to work with but I found that using wet, soapy fingers and waiting for it to cure slightly before touching it worked well. You can smooth the edge beads really well using this technique. They work very well and I=B9m guessing they=B9ll pay for themselves over two winters not having to spend $2.50 a gallon warming her up. However, I would assume any of the EZ Heat pads will benefit the oil tank and engine sump, which are where mine are mounted. I also have only one ac plug.
