This is totally off topic, but....

You know, I was a sports broadcaster for 6 years and everyone referred
to this "frozen tundra" of Packer-land all the time. Isn't "tundra" by
definition frozen? If so does that mean "frozen tundra" is what,
colder-than-a-witches-titty-in-a-metal-brazier-in-the-wintertime-in-Alaska?
Thanks in advance for some insight....
Barry
BTW, it was 29 degrees overnight in SoCal....did somebody say something
about Flori-duh?

Yeah, if "Chunks" moved to MIA he'd be MIA, eh? Actually, it's all
coming together for me now...he turned over the All Red Star event to
me, has sold his CJ, is off of active duty now....and is planning to
defect! We must get Her Schwarzenegger to put our forces on high alert!
Now, if we could just convince everyone else to leave.....

Off Yak topic--delete if you're not a tundra or a Packer fan.....
I grew up 30 miles from Green Bay (lived on the shore of Lake Michigan
(Algoma, WI). Vince Lombardi tore up the stadium dirt at Lambeau Field
and put in piping that would carry hot water in the winter, so,
technically, after that one brutal game (New York Giants???) the tundra
wasn't frozen, anymore.
And, actually, it's the subterranean tundra that's permanently
frozen--maybe 3-6 feet down. The surface tundra supports a spectacular
array of plant life, from lichens to flowers (the plants up there have
a very limited time to do their business and, so, they do it with a
passion/fervor) (unfortunately, so do the mosquitos--my Dad used to say
that if you saw a mosquito with more than one wood tick on it, it's
time to go home)
Large structures in tundra-ville are/were designed to rest on this
frozen base (houses, pipe-lines, etc.)--with global warming (whether
you believe in it or not) the depth of the frozen base is changing and
you can see buildings and pipe-line supports sitting at all sorts of
weird angles. Does not make for a happy Inuit.

Thanks to all the guys who wrote or even called with suggestions in regard
to my Yak-50 air system issue. (I found the leak, or at least one of
them.) I received numerous suggestions and expressions of support: it all
reminds me of the sort of neighborliness I grew up with in Iowa, but is
usually absent these days in the burbs, or in business generally. One
fellow, who sells these planes for a living, called with a suggestion and
we had never met. Then there's Dean Courtney, who indulged in some long
distance logic tree work.
Silver lining: if I hadn't had the leak, and hadn't pulled the seat bucket
and the floor panels, I wouldn't have found one truly astonishing FOD
waiting to happen: a piece of solid steel six inches long, 2 wide, 1
deep. The thing weighs as much as a big slab of New York strip, and it was
... just .... sitting there. Waiting to kill me, I guess. I always pat
the plane down (well, up), since I found a post-annual screwdriver in my
Decathlon once. But this was too heavy to bounce, in that regime. I had
no idea.

Any ideas on the best things to look for with both Radio Compasses not
working in a CJ6? We're going to try to trouble shoot tomorrow.
Thanks,

Troops,
1. Those planning to come to the AYS formation clinic on Jan. 15 to 18.
please down load the RPA Formation Manual from the web site. You will need to
be
quite familiar it when you arrive.
2. BADV. You will need up to date parachutes for both front and rear seats.
3. The instructor or GIB must be adle to transmit over your radio from the
back seat.
4. All your engine instruments must be working in the rear cockpit.
5. Finally a FAST requirement is that each pilot for a formation flight
check, have in his/her possession a copy of the T-34 Formation Manual and a copy
of the Darton video on formation. I'm away from home right now to give you the
info. but check for Darton's advertisement in WB magazine and call their
number. They will know what you're talking about.
6. Please take note of the basic requirements for wingmen ratings and note
that neither I nor can anyone at the clinic can issue waviers in time for or
during the clinic. Got to meet the basics.

CJ6'rs
I have a set (20) of once used, original, Chinese plugs (only a few
hours on them and like brand new) for your engine. Don't ask me how I
got ahold of them but there ain't a thing wrong with em'. Email me off
list if you want them. Bottom line.......I have no need for them so make
me an offer!
