When was the last time the FAA actually *did* consider the true impact on GA???? --> Yak-List message posted by: "Drew Blahnick" <aapilot@adelphia.net> This is not directly related to this community, but it brings up one reason why being 'organized' is so critical. Having seen the FAAs madness first-hand in the Long Beach FSDO informing me that the Southern California Flight Standards chiefs had all had a 'secret', non public meeting and decided to kick out Eastern Block jets from several airports, including mine, and greatly restricted my (and others here in Torrance) freedom to operate the CJ, I can understand the frustration. The LOA change issue last year that had such a major impact on the jet owners at least shows that a united, and vocal, GA community can at least alter or steer this mad cow of a federal agency. The outcome of that issue could have been much worse without key folks getting involved, and getting the 'victims' organized, at least on paper. This one hits right in the pocket book, Drew ----- Original Message ----- From: "RV_8 Pilot" <rv_8pilot@hotmail.com> Subject: RE: Yak-List: NPRM for Air Tour Operators > --> Yak-List message posted by: "RV_8 Pilot" <rv_8pilot@hotmail.com> > > I agree that this is an absurd proposed change, but the FAA has nothing to > gain from personal/GA flying liberty. Not a cloud in sight, unlimited visibility, light north-westerly winds. The only draw back was the forecast daytime high of -4 degree Celsius. The CJ started quite good considering the temperature and the fact she had not run in more then 2 months. The taxi was a bit hazardous, the multiple layers of clothing I was wearing didn't make it any easier, but the ice covered taxiway makes taxiing any aircraft an adventure never mind a CJ. I was the first one airborne, followed closely by J.F. in the Pilatus (P3) and then by Michel in the FockeWulf (FWP149D). We wondered in loose formation in the crisp winter morning air looking at the world recovering from last night. After about 30 minutes of flight and the mandatory fly-by at local airfields, I noticed one of my fuel tanks is not emptying. Fearing the vent may be frozen, I decide to stop at Montreal main airport for a quick pit stop (no fuel available on new years day at my home base and my bird was not full to begin with), leaving my 2 friends on their merry way. I love this airport. Where else would the tower of an international airport insist you buzz them on arrival and departure? So, after the Formula 1 type pit stop and the mandatory salutations to ATC, I am again on my way. Center is bored to death on this "busy" day and decides they want to ask me all sorts of questions about my airplane, so they keep me on their frequency until I am right over my home base. Just before he sends me on my way, he advises me of 2 primary targets 3nm north of my position. There they are, father and son, one flying Swiss' colors, the other German's, due north and 1000ft below. Perfect! As ACDC - "Thunderstruck"sounds on my MP3 player, with the sun on my back, I roll my Chinese mistress beyond 90 degree and commence my run. The Gs are increasing, 4Gs, 4.5Gs, and 5Gs, I unload and there I am, unseen, unheard 1000ft exactly at their 6. I switch to guns and let go a couple of short bursts - not sportsmanlike, I agree but all is fair in love and war- Splash two. I celebrate with a couple of victory rolls. By noon, the hangar door is now closed; the birds are asleep, each is going his separate way to rejoin family and friends. 1.5hrs of flying, 8 buzz jobs, 2 kills I can think of worse ways to welcome the New Year. Blue skies. Dan Fortin
