Congratulations to Jeff Linebaugh who passed his Check Pilot
ride at AYS. Also congrats to Richard Hess and Mike Roehr
for their Wingman qualification. We had 12 airplanes,
including Mike Filucci's who joined on Sat. for the check
rides. Several IP's also joined in to provide invaluable
back seat instruction.
Weather was OK most of the time. The airport manager hosted
a Georgia BBQ lunch on their premises; the locals were just
great and want us back. Of course, Goolsby arrived early to
grab the publicity with his mug on front of the local
newspaper. Lets see, good weather, clear airspace, good ramp
service, great food, and cheap sleep in town. I love good
logistics. We even found a nearby restuarant with a banquet
room, and big screen TV to watch Terry Calloway's videos.
One of the waitresses bought in her own VCR for us to use.
We are gonna have a good year!

does anyone know who was involved?
Last week a Yak 52 crashed near Johannesburg, it seems the pilot stalled it on
approach, aircraft burnt out, pilot and passenger walked away from it with a small
scratch.

Yes. No-one on this list, but the main shareholder is & I don't want to
steal his thunder: I am sure he will respond.
The pilot OK! These Yaks are tough.
I saw the wreck yesterday, when fetching mine having just had its annual
inspection. There is nothing left.

Folks, with your active involvement, the expansion of this association and
it's events is assured. If your local groups would like to see more events,
please visit www.flyredstar.org and e-mail your Regional Coordinators as
listed on the home page once you log-in. They are the catalysts to seeing
greater RPA organization in your local area.
If you are not a member, we urge you to join.
The events section has just about every document needed to host, plan and
run an RPA event and the formation section has all guidance needed for our
FAST operations.
Next up is Palm Springs now moving to a date TBD in March I believe, and
SunnFun in April. Please note, the association is working on a new Mass
Formation Manual and is emphasizing Mass Formation training and display at
SunnFun.

Troops,
The first SE Formation Clinic was in my estimation pretty much a success.
We were schedule to have 8 students however 1 got serious a mechanical
problem on departure and his partner stayed with him to help. Pat on the back
for
Tom Bennett who was looking to finally take his Wingman check ride. We'll get
to you Tom.
Lots of help thanks to the instructor/safety pilots that showed up.
"Wild" Bill Walker
Ray Gage
Terry Calloway
Ken Terry (a T-34 type, but we took him anyway)
Craig Payne
Erie Martinez (new call sign "Martinass")
Jeff Linebaugh
Bob Langford
Plus Liz Rizzo (I spell that right?) adding an eye pleasing form to the
flight line.
The students were all pretty much ready-up on the book work when they arrive.
Jay Land (He had our sides hurting at dinner on his very first impressions on
being in formation the first time.) He flies very well.
Tim Williams. (In a brand new TW still unpainted)
Mike Roehr (a 52 kind of guy who once flew the Voodoo "Who do?") He passed
his Wingman check. He also allow us to work on his engine a little ;)
Richard "Mongoose" Hess Retired AF type and now airline type. He and I both
received our training from one Mary Gaffany as Florida boys. Ain't nothing
wrong with this kid. Of course he passed his Wingman check ride. He has a
brand new CJ-G BTW with all the bells and - - well, lets just say there was lots
drull puddles on the tarmack.
Ray Reeves. His starting problems set his training back a bit. He was also
our best ambassador with the local folk, being very patient telling folks what
we were doing there.
Shane Golden. He's our SE Coordinator and he single handed operated the
power point which I being computer dumb, would have been up the creek to give the
ground school without. He flies his 52 really well.
Jeff Linebaugh. What can I say? He of course passed his Checkpilot check
ride. However I saw him out on my wing in Wild Bill's TW with the biggest shit
eating grin. Man-was his teeth gleaming in the sunlight!
On Saturday we put up ten aircraft. 4-3-3. We made a big arrow head and
flew over Waycross several times. In my back seat was the airport commissioner
"Mrs. Beth." There were several other local GIBs in the other planes.
"Martinass" and Lize flew the camera ship. We got some good footage which show
a
very decent formation. All went as briefed.
The folks of Waycross, Ga. were the best. There was always a small crowd
politely standing around watching. The city commissioners and airport manger
made sure that we got the first class treatment. Ever had a REALLY good BBQ for
us on Saturday.
Jim and Keith the line guys ran the fuel truck and provide oil so that no one
EVER had to wait for service. On the AOPA airport directory page, customer
comments are the highest and for good reason. These guys were top notch and as
A&Ps were right in there to help.
The boss Drew, wanted to know about next year. I KNOW Waycross wants us
back. The airport, very nice now will be better next year after the $1.2 million
improvements going on right now. All of us there, like and thought it should
be done again. Looks like a "GO" to me.
So thanks to Shane for the help with print up some manuals and power point,
and Craig Payne who chased down hotels stuff, this went very well for the first
time.
NOW Sun & Fun.

Yakers.... We have a new member of our community!
His name is Paul Batlinger..a great guy, a fellow FedEx pilot...and he has
just purchased a CJ from the Selby's. As he is deployed to the war, he hasn
t even had the opportunity to pick it up....
I received this e-mail today from him...it gives a very different viewpoint
of what is going on "over there" As most of you know, we have a wonderful
three year old girl named Lindy (Jim Goolsby's future granddaughter-in-law).
. I have to admit that this brought a tear to my eye...
Not yak related...but know there are several of you that would appreciate
reading this.
Let's welcome Paul to our group...!

A few days ago we ( my crew and I) experienced another side of war. We were
sitting Bravo alert and were launched to transport some opportune cargo
coupled with an Aero Med mission (medical transport). The Aero Med mission
involved transporting some civilians that were injured in an explosion in
Kandahar. As they started loading the civilians onto the aircraft it became
clear that most of them were children. What had happened was a terrorist
group planned to attack and kill as many Americans as possible. The
terrorist=92s set off a small explosion around children knowing that would
attract a larger crowd, then a larger explosion would follow meant to kill
Americans. The bomb=92s exploded as planned and killed approximately 30
Afgani=92s, mostly children. Dozens more were injured. Fortunately no
Americans were present.
Some of the injured were transported by an American aircraft to an American,
military, hospital. After a week or so we were charged with taking some of
them back to Kandahar. Six of the nine were children, one in particular was
a three year old little girl who had burns and cuts on the side of her head
and a cast on each leg. She was strapped to the cot with a purple blanket
covering her and her pink jacket. At her feet was a plastic toy. The Aero
meds were warned that she bites, no doubt from fear. Her parents were not
with her and we did not find out if they were alive or not. As for the
other=92s, injuries ranged from minor cuts from the debris to broken limbs and
burns.
How scarred the little girl must have been, taken from a bomb blast meant
for the people who would risk there lives to save those injured in the blast
One of the Aero meds commented that =93it was as if they threw the bomb in
the middle of a little kids soccer practice=94.
When I was operating out of Iraq we had the honor of transporting the
remains of some of those killed, during and after, the war. Some were as yet
unidentified, one was killed buying a CD in Baghdad and one was Mr. Bloom
the reporter who died of an aneurysm from riding in a tank while reporting.
All were in body bags. I accepted this as an inevitability of war. To see
first hand innocent children and adults hurt in such a mindless act is hard
to take.
As I walked past the little girl I gently touched her arm and smiled, trying
to make her feel somewhat at ease. She looked at me with her big brown eye=92s
in a distant stare. Through many faults, ours and theirs, a mentality has
been created that will allow a hatred so strong that a group of people have
no problem killing there own children in hopes of killing an American. As
the patients exited the back of the plane we received a reward greater than
any medal, a handshake, a smile and a nod of the head saying thank you. Only
two of the nine could walk under their own power or without crutches.
Fortunately these missions are not typical, most are pretty mundane. We, as
Americans, are truly blessed=85=85 never let it be taken for granted.
This will be last email I send from here as I should be leaving this
evening? I want to thank everyone for the emails, cards and general
conversation. I appreciate it very much.

What a great time was had by all in Waycross.
For any lurking FNG's out there, don't miss this formation clinic next year.
I'm already having withdrawals.
It was really strange how every time I tried to trade paint with another
plane, the stick pressures increased and the plane corrected itself!
Thanks to all the volunteer instructors that kept us out of trouble till we
got the hang of things.
Looking forward to the next gathering.

Subject: | Russian Mag Switch |
--> Yak-List message posted by: Don Boardman <dboardm3@twcny.rr.com>
Hi Guys,
Getting close to having the M-14PF installed in our Murphy Moose.
Have the wiring left to do.
Does anyone have a schematic (knowledge) of how the Russian mag switch is
wired? I have looked at the physical set up at both the mag and switch and
basically see what's going on.
My assumptions are below:
Using shielded wire (have #18 ), center conductor to terminals #1 and #2 of
mag switch
Left mag to #1 ???
Ground the shields at their respective mags.
What goes to the terminal with the inverted square U (Russian P I think)?
The switch ends of the two shields?
The hole at the mag as well as the switch look pretty big for #18 shielded
wire. Is there a special shielded cable that fits into the mag's "fitting"?
Any help is much appreciated.
