OK let me update the list. The co-owner (3 way partnership) was taking
the plane for maintenance at FAVV (Vereeniging, south of Johannesburg).
He got low on approach and the gear snagged telephone cables and pitched
down. He pulled the nose up, probably too aggresively with the ground
filling the windscreen, the left wing dropped and he went in, through a
fence. The fence probably saved a cartwheel and his life. He got out
as the plane came to a stop, and flames appeared on the cockpit floor.
People arrived within minutes to assist, but it was too late to put out
the fire. Pilot OK, plane a write off.
Regards
Jorgen

Well Sun 'n Funners, it's that time again; to register for
the Sun 60 production race to be run on Thursday April 15. I
have the entry form in .pdf format which I will forward.
Once again I challenge all Yak-50/Yak-52/CJ operators to
beat me. 4 or more of our aircraft will create our own
class, which means merchandise awards. Good PR in the
general aviation world. The Sun 60 (and Sun 100) is a good
test of real-world speed. The start is timed from a dead
stop on the runway around a 60 SM course back across a
flying finish at LAL.
Bring on your 400hp, 3-blade Yak-50's, your Super CJ-6G
Nanchangs, them "TW's" too. I'll whup yawl. But, if I manage
to slip up and someone gets by me, I will award them the
"Order of the RedStar" at our Friday night semi-banquet.
(Warbird dinner is Sat nite). Those who start but finish
behind me (all) will win the "Hero of the Glorious
Revolution" award.
Now is the time for you Whiskey Deltas to step up and
stiffen your resolve.

Anybody have a contact in Russia, or know of a patch maker that can handle
a complicated patch with Cyrillic lettering?
I'd prefer to get a more Soviet-style felt patch with the raised
plastic-like lettering, but a good embroidering job would suffice. 8cm
patch.
The patch is a copy of the 12th UAB Kamenets patch:

No offense to Tom Johnson but if anyone is considering AIG for your aircraft
insurance, you need to contact me off the list and let me tell you how their
claims adjusters have treated me after a recent forced landing I had due to
an engine failure. I will not renew with them, nor will I ever recommend
them to anyone.

Troops,
The first SE Formation Clinic was in my estimation pretty much a success.
We were schedule to have 8 students however 1 got serious a mechanical
problem on departure and his partner stayed with him to help. Pat on the back for
Tom Bennett who was looking to finally take his Wingman check ride. We'll get
to you Tom.
Lots of help thanks to the instructor/safety pilots that showed up.
"Wild" Bill Walker
Ray Gage
Terry Calloway
Ken Terry (a T-34 type, but we took him anyway)
Craig Payne
Erie Martinez (new call sign "Martinass")
Jeff Linebaugh
Bob Langford
Plus Liz Rizzo (I spell that right?) adding an eye pleasing form to the
flight line.
The students were all pretty much ready-up on the book work when they arrive.
Jay Land (He had our sides hurting at dinner on his very first impressions on
being in formation the first time.) He flies very well.
Tim Williams. (In a brand new TW still unpainted)
Mike Roehr (a 52 kind of guy who once flew the Voodoo "Who do?") He passed
his Wingman check. He also allow us to work on his engine a little ;)
Richard "Mongoose" Hess Retired AF type and now airline type. He and I both
received our training from one Mary Gaffany as Florida boys. Ain't nothing
wrong with this kid. Of course he passed his Wingman check ride. He has a
brand new CJ-G BTW with all the bells and - - well, lets just say there was lots
drull puddles on the tarmack.
Ray Reeves. His starting problems set his training back a bit. He was also
our best ambassador with the local folk, being very patient telling folks what
we were doing there.
Shane Golden. He's our SE Coordinator and he single handed operated the
power point which I being computer dumb, would have been up the creek to give the
ground school without. He flies his 52 really well.
Jeff Linebaugh. What can I say? He of course passed his Checkpilot check
ride. However I saw him out on my wing in Wild Bill's TW with the biggest shit
eating grin. Man-was his teeth gleaming in the sunlight!
On Saturday we put up ten aircraft. 4-3-3. We made a big arrow head and
flew over Waycross several times. In my back seat was the airport commissioner
"Mrs. Beth." There were several other local GIBs in the other planes.
"Martinass" and Lize flew the camera ship. We got some good footage which show
a
very decent formation. All went as briefed.
The folks of Waycross, Ga. were the best. There was always a small crowd
politely standing around watching. The city commissioners and airport manger
made sure that we got the first class treatment. Ever had a REALLY good BBQ for
us on Saturday.
Jim and Keith the line guys ran the fuel truck and provide oil so that no one
EVER had to wait for service. On the AOPA airport directory page, customer
comments are the highest and for good reason. These guys were top notch and as
A&Ps were right in there to help.
The boss Drew, wanted to know about next year. I KNOW Waycross wants us
back. The airport, very nice now will be better next year after the $1.2 million
improvements going on right now. All of us there, like and thought it should
be done again. Looks like a "GO" to me.
So thanks to Shane for the help with print up some manuals and power point,
and Craig Payne who chased down hotels stuff, this went very well for the first
time.
NOW Sun & Fun.

After examining the wreckage myself, I must say, if it had been any
