without a doubt the ADC high flow kit is the best set up. The mount is great and
contains the provision to prevent the filter from vibrating on the mount.
Also you can get the chip detector added if desired.

Does anyone have a serviceable mid life engine M14P that they wish to sell. Its
for a YAK 50 that's coming to USA in 3 weeks time. The current engine in the
a/c had hydro lock and obviously badly damaged.
Oliver is a young man and has overstretch a little to buy the 50. he worked for
us for a while gaining experience on the YAK series of a/c. Any help with an
engine at give away prices would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Best regards

Have your Fuel Caps engraved, it's permanent and easy to read. Aircraft Engravers
has been engraving fuel caps for over 14 years.
You can see our web page at http://engravers.net/aircraft/fuel_caps.htm
Other types of engraving jobs can be viewed at http://engravers.net/main/ac_products.htm
There are a few sets of loaner fuel caps for the more common styles if your tanks
are wet.
FREE shipping by USPS Priority mail for all fuel cap engraving orders in the month

Frustrated by the cost of the 1500 gallons of 100LL that went through my CJ's
engine last year, I decided to again explore the science of automotive
ethanol blended fuel. I stopped when I read the following on ARCO's site.
Can I use ARCO's ethanol-blended gasoline in my small aircraft?
No automotive gasoline can be used for refueling aircraft. However, some
pilots and aircraft owners have obtained FAA certificates to use motor gasoline
for their aircraft. Currently, the FAA prohibits the use of ethanol blends for
this application.
Does anyone know if this applies to Experimental aircraft, and what exactly
are the risks associated with ethanol in our engines?
Thanks,Blitz

Troops,
Well, into each life and little rain must fall.
This Tuesday I start 4 days of ground school. Its very intensive and the
group of pilots hard workers. VERY little playing around.
What airplane? Thought you'd never ask.
Well, the first day will be the Mitchell B-25. This is new one for me, but -
an airplane is - well an airplane. Oh hum. ;>]
The second day will be my favorite the B-24J. Did I happen to mention I fly
this rather regularly?
The third day is the B-17 ground school. Did I happen to mention I fly this
one too?
Now right now I know you guys (and ladies) are feeling very sorry for me.
But that's the way the cookie crumbles for old pelicans like me. So on Tuesday
when you are mooching on lunch, I will most likely be trying to figure out the
whys and where for of the Mitchell's hydraulics system in its top turret.
The warm Florida sun beating down though its plexiglas and giving me an early
burn and the sweat in my eyes.
How does that song go? "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" :) :) :) :) :) :)

Byron,
Straight Mogas (really no such thing) can be used with an
STC for engines certified with fuels less than 100LL. The
reason for the Ethanol ban on these STC's was that the
varnish in older fuel systems and carburators will break up
and "clot" the screens using ethanol which is a powerful
solvent. Plastic parts and hose also degrade in alchols.
I don't know what materials are inside of Chinese and
Russian carburators. I use Mogas cut with 100LL in my M14P.
Keeps the spark plugs cleaner. Down here in FLA, I haven't
seen Ethanol blends but my Ford truck is ready; I have the
multi-fuel engine designed to operate on blends of up to 85%
ethanol.
Another reason for NOT using Ethanol blends is that it
doesn't have as much heat energy as gasoline, hence, less
"mileage" per fuel load. The Germans in WW-II used alchol
blends and modified their aircraft engines to run on it. Due
to greater O2 in the fuel, they performed better at high
altitude, but with decreased combat radius.

Blitz,
Flying with ethanol (alchohol) is nothing new. Back in the early days of
Oshkosh EAA had a still set up on site and flew an experimental (can't
remember what) with the ethanol produced. There have been several airshow
acts flown on E over the years with the Vanguard Squadron being one of the
most notable. They flew formation aerobatics in yellow E-powered RV's
sponsored by the South Dakota Corn Growers. I also recall a Pitts, a
Velocity and a C-152 flown on E.
I have an auto-gas STC for my citabria that states no alchohol . That
doesn't mean E is bad, just that it wasn't all that popular when the STC was
approved so it wasn't used in testing. Gasoline varies seasonally around the
country but virtually all of it has some sort of oxygenate to meet EPA
standards. This used to be methanol-based ethers but those are now being
phased out due to health concerns and E -blends are becoming more common.
Pure ethanol is hard to find outside a liquor store so you will be dealing
with a blend of some kind. Keep in mind ethanol has less BTU/gal so range
will be decreased and adjustments to fuel and ignition are necessary.
Ethanol got a bad rap in the early days because it tends to dissolve
rubber fuel lines, blatters and gaskets. This caused obvious problems in
older vehicles and small engines. Most modern vehicles are compatable with
ethanol but i would NEVER put it in an aircraft unless i knew EVERY
component of the fuel system was compatable. Do we really know that about
our Yaks/CJs ?
You can get more information from EAA or the Renewable Fuels Assn. or
contact me off list.

The BTU content lower, however the Octane rating is higher. One other thing
alcohol is hydroscopic, i.e. it loves water.
