Troops,
Want to see a picture of the intrepid airmen who were at Waycross for the
first SE Formation Clinic?
Go to the RedStar Pilots Association web. (www.flyredstar.org/index.php) The
whole group is there

The EAA has a lot of good information on using Mogas. There are two primary evils
to using alcohol (ethanol or methanol) blends:
1. Methanol and Ethanol are corrosive and can damage fuel system components;
2. alcohol can keep water trapped in the fuel which will come out again when the
temperature drops when the airplane is at altitude.
At the concentrations common with standard mogas, mixture isn't a problem but the
two aforementioned problems are. Avoid alcohols unless your fuel system has
been designed for it.
You will have to talk to the refinery to find out if the local fuel has alcohol
in it. California was using MTBE which is just fine and causes no problems but
with the groundwater pollution problem CA is phasing out MTBE. The will probably
switch to Ethanol in the winter instead.

I would be intrested in the hydraulic locked engine for

Opinion #1: ARCO's advice is not legally binding on you. The faa
certificate for an engine contains the legally binding fuel requirements.
You don't have an approved engine so you don't violate any FAR if you use
unapproved fuel. In fact there is no fuel approved for your engine.
Opinion #2: Using gasahol in you airplane is a bad idea. Alcohol has a
lower vapor pressure and it has a tendency to absorb water, both are bad for
airplanes. Look for fuel with MTBE as an "oxygenating" agent. This is FAA
approved for (other) airplanes.
