I can make a block plate for the tach generator. CNC machined and polished
for $25. I have the horizon tach as well and designed the plate for my 55M .
It will take a week or two to make a batch up.

We have a Horizon digital tach on our aircraft and we would like to remove
the Tach Generator. Does anyone make a block off plate for the tach drive
port on the engine (M14)?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Marshall

Thanks for all the info folks - the recent cause of my chip detector
going on, was balls of metal that one could easily crush. So this must
be the lead fouling you mention. I did think it very strange at the
time, because none of the metal looked as if it had broken or chipped
off anything. Just a bit of metal dust with a couple of these tiny
balls, less than 1mm in diameter.
Regards
Jorgen

Other metals found in Round engines:
Chrome: from rings running in steel cylinders. Looks like
shiny flakes or chips.
Silver: used to plate the master bearing. Flakes, seeing
this is serious
Lead: Used to cover and protect the silver plating on the master
bearing. Flakes may mean bearing galling. Balls of lead may be the
resultant of lead fouling in the spark plugs, common if 100LL is used.
Just check the inside bottom of the spark plugs; those balls of lead
either work their way in the plug or spill out in the crankcase, hence,
oil.
On large radials, an X-ray or ultrasound photo must be made
of the master bearing, all 360 degrees. Each OH should have
a proof photo map. Not done on our engines but can be
performed by the west coast large engine shops.

Something new for our comrades, could be handy on your way to RedStar,
Sun-n-Fun, or anywhere else:
anyAWOS Provides Access to Current Weather Reports From Anywhere
A new service allows anyone to access any publicly available Automated
Weather Observing System (AWOS) or Automated Tower Information System (ATIS) via
a
toll-free number. It=E2=80=99s called anyAWOS, from Mackinac Software, LLC.=20Dial
877/any-AWOS (877/269-2967), enter any three-character airport identifier, choose
from the possible airports provided, and you=E2=80=99ll be connected to that airport=E2=80=99s
AWOS or ATIS number. The service allows users to easily access current weather
conditions nationwide, and in the case of ATIS, current airport information
such as snow removal operations notices or runway closures. (Because not all
AWOS/ASOS locations report METARs, current on-airport weather may only be
available from the AWOS.) For more information visit www.anyAWOS.com, or e-mail
