The gear on this airplane seems to be the weak link and these would be nice for stock. They are virtually impossible to find. I am asking what I paid for them. $3,000.00 If anyone is interested, drop me a note. I also have some Yak-50 (52) gill parts. Regards, Tim Gagnon NiftyYak50@msn.com<mailto:NiftyYak50@msn.com>

Your question is roughly the same that has been raging for about 30 years, i.e., "what is better, RADAR or stormscope?" You really want airborne radar (high resolution, short range, immediate), ground-based weather (low-resolution, large area, delayed), and stormscope (lightning strikes), displayed together. Add in doppler in the airborne RADAR to get some information about turbulence ... But if I have to pick only one, I am more worried by convective activity and that means thunderstorms. Thunderstorms have lightning. Lightning only shows up on Stormscope. --> Yak-List message posted by: "Jim Ivey" <jim@jimivey.com> I have a Verizon Audiovox CDM8900 cell phone that displays Nexrad and Satellite in full color (along with a built in camera). It's their Accuweather subscription and cost is $2.99 per month. You can zoom in and out of the color images. It's a tri-mode phone and works everywhere. Weather depiction examples here: http://wwwa.accuweather.com/iwxpage/adc/mobile/verizon_prem.htm I specifically changed over from T-Mobile to Verizon (with number portability) just to get the expanded coverage and weather in the palm of my hand. That's real cheap bastard stuff right there. And the little camera in the phone may allow you to leave some pictures of the way down or crash for the investigators. I miss the Bluetooth connectivity to my Pocket PC (not available with Verizon) but for $2.99 for what I really want how can I argue? Heck, we all need a new cell phone every once in a while, anyway. Subject: won't start
--> Yak-List message posted by: KevLCo@aol.com Nothing simple, sorry~ you gotta start from go and see where it takes you. First, are you SURE you have fuel? Try starting it with a healthy prime, pulled into the cylinders as you prime it. If it fires but won't sustain, try priming into the cylinder as it catches. If it runs with the primer pumping into the cylinders, you have carb problems. If not, move to ignition. Try starting with the mags in 1+2, both front and back. Maybe the shower of sparks is at fault. It's a much harder start that way. And if you've had progressively harder starts as time has gone on..... it's on the list of conspirators. Maybe a mag switch has grounded out inside.... remove the mag P lead plugs from the magnetos, and try a start. Be ready to shut down with the fire handle/shut off.... or you could use a ohm meter and check for ground from the mag back into the airframe system. Position the switches and check for proper grounding. Remember, grounding a mag shuts it off. Once started, did the engine run well? If there was a mag problem, the problem would be evident after starting as well. Do you have an intake boot popped off? Again, a progressively harder start may indicate a small leak that's turned into a large one. This also would manifest itself at a slow idle by rough, lobbing rpm and stalls. If this was my airplane, I'd pull the plugs, check the compression, check the timing of both mags, maybe I'd pull the points and check them as well. Perform a high tension test of the harness with a meggar. Test the plugs and service/replace them. How bout the starting manifold? Is it timed properly? Are you getting enough of a crank speed during starting? Is the cylinder prime working as published? Is the primer itself pumping as needed, and is the cylinder prime nozzle really injecting the proper fuel into the supercharger? Sorry to throw so much at you, but there really is a lot of things to consider... please let me know what you find, for I may be the one asking the same question some day. Regards, Kevin Cost Las Vegas N152YK

--> Yak-List message posted by: "Sam Sax" <cd001633@mindspring.com> Frank, Please elaborate your statement "The rotor has about 1/4 inch back and forth movement or slop" - I assume you mean the Magneto Rotor. If you do, which Mag? A 1/4" slop seems abnormal to me (I may be wrong). If you get the same slop on either Mag then it is probably normal. If the rotor slop is much greater than in the other Mag, then something broke internally. Double-check the rotor for security first (3 screws attach it to the shaft) - the rotor position on the shaft is adjustable, make sure it is the proper position and secured (read Craig Payne's procedure for caring and feeding of the Mag...).
