I have a JPI and fuel flow on my 285 Housai and have no problem finding peak
and runing 30 deg lean of peak.
Tom :
To lean the JPI start leaning from 1/4 to 1/3 on the mixture press the lean
find button. Then slowly move the mixture up until the the JPI flashes with
the 1st cyl to go lean. hold the lean button in and the jpi will tell you
the egt of the 1st cly to lean(lean R).You then can if you like go appx
30-40 deg kean of peak fuel flow appx 13-14 GPH.
Watch you cyl head temps the factory guage sucks. It will tell you 175 c
but you may find #3 and #6 over 400 not agood place for them.
If any one is interested I can foward a excel spred sheet which data logged
doing this

My manual shows a cruise mixture adjustment on the
front side of the carb for the CJ . This is accessed between the
two bottom cylinders . You may need to adjust this needle
to get the full mixture range.

According to Mr. Goode's website, USD$460,000 to $600,000, depending on
airframe and avionics options.
Performance specs and pictures are also on the website:
http://www.russianaeros.com/SM2000.htm
It's a unique looking airplane and the performance numbers are promising. I
would like to know what the useful load is. The empty weight is not published
on the site. I wonder if it can REALLY haul 5 belly-buttons plus luggage WITH
full tanks?

SM2000-Turbine 18T
This is a totally new aircraft, using only the central fuselage of the
18T.
240-knot cruise; take off and land at max gross in 350 yards; climbs at
2,500ft per minute at max gross.
Currently going through full international certification - if anyone
wants more details - please contact us directly.

Last November I attended the Advanced Engine Management seminar in Ada Oklahoma.
John Deakins (writes for Avflash) and George Braly (President of GAMI) were
two of the instructors, and I learned a ton about operating engines - including
round engines. For starters, unless you have a JPI engine analyzer monitoring
ALL cylinders you don't know squat about what's happening in those nine separate
engines connected to a common crank.
I recently put the JPI on my F33A Bonanza. After running for six years according
to Continental's instructions (50 to 75 Rich of Peak (ROP) -- which happens
to be about the worst place to run an engine -- I paid the price with a burned
exhaust valve and a $1,200 lighter wallet. I have the GAMI injectors in (they
provide an even fuel flow to all cylinders and allow smooth Lean of Peak (LOP)
operation), and I now routinely run LOP at much lower CHTs, lower internal
pressures, less fuel and a much cleaner engine. Even before we did the compression
test I knew we had an exhaust valve problem in #3 because the EGT was
running consistently above the other cylinders. One other advantage, doing a
LOP mag test shows up weak plugs very quickly and saves a lot of ground time (and
mechanic's cost).
The old time round engine guys in the airlines and military had the LOP process
down cold, frequently by experimenting at night when they could see the color
of the exhaust and thereby set up their standards. What the Ada guys show is
that we either want to be very ROP or at least 40 degrees LOP. Stay away from
the middle ground and CHTs above 400. As Brian pointed out, the round engines
benefit from the supercharger that mixes the fuel and gives the same charge
to each cylinder so they can be run LOP smoothly.
Like everyone else, the M14P on "8" is leaned automatically. However, the Performance
Airflow injection carb on "Hana Ho" is leaned manually. When Doug and
I flew it up to Omak, Washington from Deer Valley, AZ, we found that the carb
was very effective at leaning -- easily stopping the engine -- but not very manageable
until we get the JPI on it this coming month. Since it will readily
burn 22 gph (we did average 173 kts TAS), leaning and the JPI will be important.
So, a couple of thoughts. Read John Deakin's articles on engine management (I
can give you a link if you need it). Invest in the JPI engine Analyzer so you
know more about what's going on. Attend an Advanced Engine Management seminar
and see for yourself what goes on in your engine (it's $900 or so, and a great
investment). Below 5,000 feet run very ROP with heavy power use - full throttle
gives you extra fuel for cooling and keeps the CHTs down.
I have no claim to being an expert, and -- of course -- your mileage may vary.

How many Yak drivers does it take to change a gear
indicator light bulb?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light
bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light
bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed
differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
1 to move it to the Lighting section
2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section
7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about
changing light bulbs
5 to flame the spell checkers
3 to correct spelling/grammar flames
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light
bulb"... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the
proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry,
and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs
and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb
forum
11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we
all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are
relevant to this forum
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is
superior,where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand
of light bulbs work best for this technique and what
brands are faulty
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of
different light bulbs
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and
then post the corrected URL's
3 to post about links they found from the URL's that
are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs
relevant to this group
13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their
entirety including all headers and signatures, and add
"Me too"
5 to post to the group that they will no longer post
because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short
time ago?"
13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before
posting questions about light bulbs"
1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6
months from now and start it all over again.
