We have available all manuals for the M14P & YAK 52 on a CD. I think its about
3000 pages, cost is $80 plus postage surly a better way than guessing at what
to do!!! We take credit cards and ship same day.
We are just about to release 2 new manuals on CD. The YAK 50 and SU-4 parachute
packing manual.
Best regards

Is the SU-4 chute the one used in the L-29?

MJ,
Yak 50 manuals? Well that sounds interesting. Are they russian translated or
ones that you have put together yourself?
I have sold 5 of the CD's so far (waiting for cash to arrive) will most likely
order another ten here in about two weeks.
The CD looks awesome and would love to see screen clips of the Y50 CD if
availible. Put it on your website.
I have been passing around the Yak 50 info that you sent me to see if I can
get some interest in those two aircraft. Still working it.
Regards,
Mark "SHREK" Schrick

Looking for ideas on engine venting when replacing the Huosai engine with the M14
on a CJ.
Should one modify the oil tank on the CJ to duplicate the vent system as used on
the Yak 18T?

Yakers,
I'm wanting to rebuild my M14P. I'd like the 400HP conversion while I'm
at it. Anyone know who will do it? Anyone have any recommendations?
Don't hold back......who does the best work?

G'day Lou;
Valve adjustment ----
1. Remove all front spark plugs - Mag switch off.
2. Remove all rocker arm cover plates.
3. On # 1 Cylinder-- find top dead centre on the compression stroke. You
don't need the TDC indicator for this. Plug the hole with your thumb while
you rotate the prop (in the normal direction), you will feel the
compression. Continue to rotate until the piston is at the top of it's
stroke. You can confirm this with a smooth ended rod of some kind (one that
cannot fall into the cyl.) and notice that the rocker arms are no longer
moving. Both valves are closed. Practice on this cyl. so you can reach the
TDC position without going too far past it. If you do go too far back the
prop about 45 degs. and try again. You will notice that there is a few
degrees of dwell where the piston does not move. Any position within this
range is acceptable.
4. You must have an adequate thin walled, well fitting, socket or ring
spanner to avoid damaging the lock nuts. A ring spanner is preferable since
you will want to hold the adjusting screw with a screwdriver. If you have
the Chinese or Russian tool for this the above is moot.
Clearance limits are 3 to 4 mm (.012" to .016")
Check the clearance before moving the locknut. To determine the actual
clearance use the feeler gauge at 90 degs to the rocker arm and find the
feeler that will give just a slight amount of drag.
To adjust, back off the locknut - I do not try to hold the screw while doing
this, just note the slot location and see if it moves. If you try to hold it
the wrench will likely slip and do some damage. Adjust the screw to a slight
drag with a .014" feeler. Re-tighten the locknut and re-check the
clearance. You may have to hold the screw for this but with a little
practice you can find the position that will give the correct gap after
tightening. Do both valves and before leaving the cylinder confirm that both
locknuts are tight.
5. We started on #1 just to make it simple. Continue in firing order
(1,3,5,7,9,2,4,6,8). Since this is a geared engine, unlike direct drive, the
prop blade position relative to the cylinder for a given piston position
varies for each cyl. Ignore that.
With your handy piston position indicator in place in #3 cyl. rotate to TDC
and continue as above. You can if you like confirm compression with your
thumb but as long as you follow the firing order it will be correct.
6. Depending on the configuration of your wrench you may have to back up the
prop to loosen and tighten one of the locknuts. I can't remember which one.
If so just remember to re position to TDC for clearance checks.
One other little note: These engines have a little spring in the push rod
assembly that keeps the valve lifter roller in contact with the cam ring
when the roller is not in contact with the cam lobe. A cunning little device
that reduces lobe and roller wear. You will notice this as a light pressure
closing the valve clearance. Lift the rocker by hand and note that it will
return to closed when you release it. This does impart a minor drag on the
feeler, just be aware of that and judge feeler drag accordingly. If in doubt
err on the loose side! Practice by increasing and decreasing thickness by
.001" or .002".
Have you completed and flown the CJ yet?
Best regards;
Walt
