Great > idea. Why didn't I think of it. One would have to figure it out. The white LEDs seem to have about a 3V-4V drop across them at operating current. Current is about 20mA as I recall. So pick a resistor that will drop 24V at 20mA. R = E/I (resistance equals voltage divided by current) so 24V/.020A = 1.2K. To figure dissipation: E*I = P or 24V * .020A = 0.48W. I would use nothing less than a 1W resistor. Red LEDs seem to have about a 1.5V-2V drop which will require a slightly higher value resistor. I am not sure about the drop across the green LEDs and plan to measure them for my application. These calculations are used as an example. You will need to check the values published by the manufacturer of the LEDs you are using or you will need to come up with a test setup with a variable resistor. -- Brian Lloyd 6501 Red Hook Plaza brian@lloyd.com Suite 201 http://www.lloyd.com St. Thomas, VI 00802 +1.340.998.9447 (voice) +1.360.838.9669 (fax) There is a time to laud one's country and a time to protest. Subject: Timing slipped a gear......?
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Frank Haertlein" <yak52driver@earthlink.net> Yaksters, As regards the timing issues I posted about...... Went back to recheck everything and found the rubbing block on the points had worn quicker then what I'm used to. This caused the timing to be off. As I was rechecking the timing, I was about to loosen the left mag hold down nuts when I discovered the fuel primer line was broken. The primer injection port is right next to the left mag hold down nut so when I went to loosen the nut the primer line came apart. A visual inspection of this line revealed nothing wrong as it looked perfectly in place. A little bit of a tug on it would have revealed it was broken and that's what happened when I went to loosen the mag hold down nut. It was pure luck that I discovered it (serendipity?). So I'm left to conclude there was little if any fuel getting into the engine for a proper prime. Take a lesson from this......even if you can feel fuel being pushed from the primer, don't assume it's getting to your engine! This is why I had difficulty starting and why it would only sputter every so often. Combine this with worn down points and it all makes sense as to what was happening. Needless to say, I'm pleased I don't have a engine that's been Hydraulic locked or an accessory drive shaft that's been bent as a result. I readjusted the points, bolted everything back together and, lo-and-behold, I have a motor that runs great! What a relief! Hope you guys can take a lesson from this.
