we use a fuel pump from a fuel injected car, they run approx 75 psi and have a
check valve built in. (anti drip) & Designed to pump fuel!! simple of the shelf
and fuel flow does not reduce due to exhaust back pressure unlike the rotary
flap/ vein type used by some people. Also they last forever with no parts to
service.

Mark, You have my interest. What is used at the exhaust stack. Is there a
spray nozzle of some kind to atomize the oil.

Subject: | FAA Has Second Thoughts On T-34 Fleet (Again) |
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Mark Schrick" <schrick@pacbell.net>
FAA Has Second Thoughts On T-34 Fleet (Again)
On Monday, the FAA published a final rule
<http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/14mar20010800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/
2004/04-4372.htm> affecting the T-34 fleet, declaring that the Alternative
Methods of Compliance (AMOCs) it had approved for an earlier Airworthiness
Directive on wing spars are no longer valid. The rule follows the November
crash of a T-34 in Texas, in which two pilots were killed when a wing
separated from the airplane while they were performing air-combat maneuvers.
The impact of the new rule on the fleet is not quite clear, Tim Roehl,
president of the T-34 <http://www.gami.com/t34.html> Spar Corp., which
provides modifications for the airplanes, told AVweb yesterday. "We expect
that the AMOCs will be revised and resubmitted to the FAA," he said.
If that process works fairly smoothly, as Roehl anticipates, new AMOCs may be
approved before T-34 owners are due for their next 80-hour inspection.
However, the T-34 Association <http://www.t-34.com/index.htm> 's Web site
said, "It appears that any T-34 that has accumulated 80 hours or more time in
service since August 16, 2001, will be grounded on March 15, 2004, regardless
of whether or not any AMOC has been performed. The only exception to this is
the aircraft that have complied with Raytheon Service Bulletin No. 57-3329 are
not effected [sic] by this amendment." The T-34 Association is hoping to work
out a temporary AMOC for those that have already completed an AMOC by
inspecting wing station 66 per Raytheon Service Bulletin 57-3329. Victor
Juarez, the Designated Engineering Representative that designed the AMOC for
General Aviation Modifications Inc. (GAMI) and the rear spar inspection for
Nogle and Black Aviation, is currently working with GAMI to develop an
inspection procedure and a fix that will extend the 80-hour reinspection
interval of the Raytheon Service Bulletin to several thousand hours between
inspections. Roehl said the revised AMOC would make available a fix that is
OK'd for about 7,500 hours. The new FAA rule takes effect March 15. About 350
T-34s are flying in the U.S., Roehl estimated. The FAA first issued an AD
about the T-34 wings in 1999, after a wing on a T-34A separated in flight. The
FAA estimated that each repetitive inspection would cost about $1,860.

OK, let's talk more about this. Factory Sukhoi smoke...seems to work
real well. Does anyone know how it is set up? I do know that you need
about 60 psi for good smoke...so there's, uh, adequate reserve from our
systems. :)
I have the plumbing installed for my smoke system, but still no tank or
pump. I'm interested in doing an air pressure system. Hey, if it's
good enough for Sukhoi, it's good enough for me!
Anyone have anymore info on how the system is set up?
Thanks!

Barry; I have all the engineering drawings for my Sukhoi, so I'll
check. But, from what I understand the compressor on the engine not
only is plumbed to the start bottle but also to the smoke tank. If
there is a reducer I'm not aware of it. 500-700psi seems to do well.
I'll get back after looking at the drawings. Rick

--> Yak-List message posted by: "Mark Jefferies YAK UK Ltd" <mark@yakuk.com>
This one is for the YAK 50 owners.
Take a look at http://www.yakuk.com/img/longeron_crack_yak50.jpg it shows a crack on the fuselage stringer, this crack has been found on 3 a/c in the UK out of 25 in addition to one abroad. So 4 in 30 a/c , with 80 a/c in known existence there are another 7 or 8 cracked stringers out there flying around !!
Whilst talking of cracks on the 50 take a careful look at the fuselage formers
from engine to instrument panel there is another common area where cracks near
the fuel tanks we have seen on several occasions. Especially if you hang smoke
tanks from them !!

This would be a BIG help, I'm not at an airplane and in a REAL time crunch...
thanks folks!
PS: SunnFun is some 40 days away, we will have a FAST ground school starting in
the afternoon on the 13th for which we need safety pilots and back seat experienced
instructors. If you don't have your airplane and want to commercial in
to help with the basic FAST clinic and still take part in the good times of
SunnFun, we could use you. This is the first year we will run a seperate Mass

Not so fast here!
Length is a closely guarded secret. The 1st (YPC) Longest
Pitot Tube contest was held in 2001 at MTW. The winner was
James Goolsby. Many suspected artificial enhancement but the
truth is that Jim's CJ is an early 1962 model "CJ-6", not
the "-A" and it still had the Yak tube, which is bit longer
than the CJ-6A. But heh, CJ's are way better looking.

Hey!!! My CJ-6 was a 1969 model! (Jim Plumby of S.C. has the earliest built
CJ-6, I believe. Its a 1962.) I believe my rather large pitot tube was
actually a modification for some special secret mission still buried in the most
secret files under Tinnomen Square.
That is has some semblance to my physical attributes is just coincidence!
BTW the winning numbers were: 1 1/8 inches in diameter and 20 15/16 inches
long.

Drew,
Just got back from the hangar. 98mm is the dia and it protrudes 390mm from
the leading edge. That last figure is interesting as the book value is
530mm.
Hope this helps in a timely fashion.
