To answer the following,
These pumps are only 12 volts, not a problem though as that will work on any a/c,
if the a/c has 24v system we take a taping from the battery mid point, make
sure you have fuse protection near the battery as this is not through the master
switch.
As for nozzles, every one has there own opinion Aubrey, (position and spray effect) I believe it best that the fuel is sprayed in the centre of the ex flow. On a lycoming Kevin Murray skydynamics said 12" from the ex flange, so that's what I did and it works, see http://www.yakuk.com/laser.htm and you will see what I mean !! But Extra put the nozzle 12" from the end of the exhaust out let. It still works but possibly more fuel is left unburned as the temps are slightly lower. On an M14P we put it above the last section so the oil has another flame to heat it. Problem with this is that the ex joints leak a bit.
Some people just pump via a 1/4" pipe in the side of the exhaust and others make
a fan spray in the centre, on my a/c I go to the extra trouble of making a fan
spray in the centre but this is more costly, Gus Frazer I believe had a load
of spray nozzles made from drawings I sent him.
regards, to all, hope that is of help.

There is a myth out there that size does not matter! It IS a myth, to
paraphrase a line from Anger Management "this is where she and I disagree.
I like them large, she likes them HUGE!".
Jim's is most impressive (or at least the other airplanes tell me so).

How many Amps does it draw because Aircraft Spruce do a really nice 24-12V
regulator that handles up to 4.5 amps.

Air Driven Smoke
I have looked at the correspondence - all Sukhois work on the basis of a bleed
from the main air-system into the smoke tank. However, at 750psi you would end
up with a shredded tank!
The Sukhoi system has a reducing valve, down to about 3psi, and the system works
fine.
Best regards

I have a question that I could not answer as the aircraft I am working on have
not flown much since they were imported. What is the MTBF that could be expected
of a factory overhauled 285hp Housai.

This is the tentative schedule for S&F. Nothing is permeant in life nor is

Smoke Pumps
We have had a lot of experience of pumps, and suggest the Jabsco (an ITT subsidiary)
- model "Inter-puppy" - part number 22010-2753.
The only disadvantage is that it is a bit heavy (2lbs) since it is primarily a
boat-bilge pump. On the other hand:
a.. It is relatively cheap.
b.. It is designed to pump pretty much anything, and if your smoke-oil is in
any way contaminated, not a problem.
c.. The motors are indestructible, and the pump part is nylon, and on one hand
long-life and on the other very cheap to replace.
d.. 24 volt.
e.. Importantly - for an M14 installation, very big capacity. I reckon you need
1-gallon a minute for good smoke, and these pumps will easily give 2-gallons
or more. Alternatively, they then have the pressure to power a good spray for
better smoke.
Hope this helps.
