3 psi seems low. Could it be 3 kg/cm2?

Ok fellow bargain hunters,
Who can tell me the best place to get a new GPS three pilot from with a pacific
database. A/C Spruce has the inside running at the moment.
Cheers,
Graeme Frew (Frewju)

Jay,
I can only give you my experiences with the Housai and plenty of heresay.
My aircraft was imported from China in 1990. The engine logbook gives an
overhaul time of 600 hours though some seem to think 500 is the figure. From
what I understand an overhaul is just a measure up to see what, if anything,
needs replacing. The Air Force does the first two and then the engine is
sent to the factory on it's third. I am SURE someone out there will correct
me if I'm wrong on that. The factory overhaul is a more precise measure up.
My engine is running sweetly 'on condition' at 820 hours or thereabouts. I
had to have some valves ground not so long ago to bring the cylinders back
up but otherwise it is using about a litre an hour of oil (mostly leaked).
The engine has a total time from new of 3150 which some say means it should
no longer be in use. I'm glad I wasn't aware of that theory when I flew the
aeroplane to New Zealand (the place with all the Oscars) from Aussie in
2000. Incidentally the two cylinders we pulled measured up standard so I
assume the Chinese don't rebore their engines but just put a new pot on. The
engine has been run all this time with just the standard Housai rock filters
for the oil.
Hope this helps in some way.
Regards,
Graeme Frew

Does any one know the purpose of the cowl mod
that Yakity Yaks does to their aircraft?

American Avionics.
Their service is excellent, as are their prices.

The purpose of the cowl mod was to get rid of the "broken back" look of the CJ.
You will notice that the top cowl slopes down towards the rear and then the
fuselage starts out close to level. Other than that it serves no other purpose.
It does make adding oil a little harder.

ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE A NICE COMPLETE SET OF GILL LOUVERS THEY MIGHT WANT TO TRADE
FOR ONE OF THOSE LARGE ALUMINUM SPINNERS. CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE FELLA
WHO WAS BUILDING THEM, BUT I HAVE ONE ON MY CJ. I PREFER THE STOCK LOOK.
IT ALSO GETS COLD UP HERE HALF THE YEAR. I SEEM TO REMEMBER SOMEONE ASKING ABOUT
ONE RECENTLY ON THE LIST. THANKS,
ART
