We are thinking about parting out our 1982 PZL 104-80. Total time airframe
and engine 200 hrs. Everything but the prop and landing gear will be up for
grabs.

Your story sounds very familiar.
After servicing the hub and changing seals last year i had the bright
idea that i could set the blade angle by jacking up the plane and pulling
the blades past a 30g drum (FAA approved) set behind the trailing edge. If
they track they must be the same angle, right? Fortunately i borrowed a
SmartTool to check my work. Wasn't even close. I now own a SmartTool.
I later set the record for "quickest pattern ever flown in a Yak" when i
got an education on the importance of having the counterweight arms against
the flange. Jill told me later that if you can put a fingernail between the
weight arm and the flange, you will feel a vibration. I had about 1/4". I
felt lots of vibration. It was so bad in the air i was amazed it didn't feel
that bad on run-up. After careful consideration i suspect that ground/gear
contact has a dampening effect. Make a note: test flights should be done on
long runways.
Things went well 'till MTW when Sergei commented on my vibration. Not that
it was bad, but that it got worse at high RPMs which is opposite of what
you'd expect. I took it to Gary Jet Center and their Aces box confimed .24
ips @ 90% & .11 ips @ 70%. They got it down to .04 @ 60% &.12 @ 90%. Claud,
who was very helpful considering this was his first Yak, told me at these
levels it wouldn't take much to change balance, including the moisture in
the wood. I have always been careful to leave the prop horizontal to keep
moisture from migrating tip to root but he pointed out this prop has a large
chord and it may take 20 min. of flying to equalize moisture that has moved
from leading to trailing edges and vice versa. I've always pulled the prop
through periodically when the plane sits a long time. Now i make sure to
pull an odd number of blades to keep the moisture moving chord-wise.

I can't recall who was after the Yak 18T article. Did you get a reply from the
magazine?. Their email is mail@ausaviation.com.au They tell me they have just
posted their last copy to 'a guy' in the states so I'm hoping that was the one
on the list. Let me know if not as theyv'e offered to photocopy said article.
Cheers,

So Cal Yakkers,
The Antelope Valley Chapter of the 99's are holding a poker run at
William J Fox airfield (WJF) this coming Sunday. Start time is 9:00 AM
with a BBQ afterwards. All kinds of excellent prizes to be awarded. It's
a little late to submit the application but they accept participants at
the door! Anyone besides me interested? Here's the flyer

For another cheap thrill................
A video, 5 Megabytes large. Takes awhile to download but it shows what
happens to Arabs who defy the US. I must say, it's a most pleasing
video....especially after what happened to us on 911. Click the link
below for examples of helicopter kills :)

Has anybody changed the push rod tube seals on a Huosai? What is the easiest way
to do the change? Are the seals regular hose or are they a preformed special
part?
