You need a "circuit" to automatically inflate and deflate them as the G comes and goes. That strikes me as a rather complex piece of equipment to add to an airplane with a 6-G limit. But it would be cool and completely in keeping with the philosophy of "Macho Flight Wear at all costs"! -- Brian Lloyd 6501 Red Hook Plaza brian@lloyd.com Suite 201 http://www.lloyd.com St. Thomas, VI 00802 +1.340.998.9447 (voice) +1.360.838.9669 (fax) There is a time to laud one's country and a time to protest. Did you subscribe to the service or did you receive unsolicited email? They may be the best company in the world and offer a great service but they have committed the sin of *sending* SPAM. This is like the LD telcos "slamming". They may have great rates but I won't put up with the unethical marketing. If the marketing works, they will keep using it vis-a-vis telemarketing. > Er, ah, I went ahead and made one > of the flyouts today on their list. I'm sorry if I had a > good time. There is a reason that airplanes have shielded ignition systems. > It could also be the intercom as I can not get the squelch to > settle down to less than a dull roar. Try unplugging the microphone(s) and see if the problem goes away. Most microphones just pick up too much noise for most intercoms. --> Yak-List message posted by: cpayne@joimail.com Tom, Some folks have been running automotive plugs for years in their Yaks. The trick is to use an EMI/RMI protected system. That means Resistor spark plugs and Magnecor wire. If you still have your wiring harness then you are limited to using 7mm size rather than the racing 8.5mm or 10mm wire. Use one of the fine wire Platinum or Iridium racing plugs such as the Lightspeed setup for the Continental 0-200/0-240. No fouling, long life, cheap and no shielded harness required. Craig Payne

Subject: Oil and Rudder Cable Questions
    From: "Dennis Von Ruden" <dvonruden@generalequip.com>
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Dennis Von Ruden" <dvonruden@generalequip.com> I am almost ready to start my CJ after a long restoration process. Have the following questions for comments: 1) I plan to use Phillips 25W60 oil in the engine. The engine has approximately 600 hours total time and 0 since a Chinese factory overhaul. I do not know the specific work performed during the overhaul, except that the engine looks brand new. I am very aware of the detergent versus nondetergent oil protocol for seating the rings. From talking with people and the printed material in the field, I feel the 25W60 should be very acceptable both now and into the future. Comments? 2) I have not been able to determine a specific value for the rudder cable tension from the maintenance manual or any other printed materials. Does anyone have any information on this? Thanks for your help. Dennis Von Ruden dvonruden@generalequip.com

--> Yak-List message posted by: "Jim Selby" <jimscjs@mbay.net> Dennis I was using Phillips 20W50, but it runs out of the Engine, I use Aero shell 100W, I would just to be safe run 100 Mineral oil for the 1st 50 hours then switch to 100W, I know there is allot of comments about this, but for me I would rather play safe, all Shell Oils are compatible with each other so you could switch after 50 hours and not drain it if you wanted to. The Rudder tension will be about 50 lbs, use the cable tension guide in the U.S maintenance books for size and Temperature, it will come out to about 50lbs. --> Yak-List message posted by: "Frank Haertlein" <yak52driver@earthlink.net> Yaksters, If you have a YAK-52 I'm going to suggest a procedure you should ingrain in your head. Please, ingrain it in your head guys......trust me. I didn't have this as habit and it bit me. When you're landing and you lower your gear, flip the "gate" lever to the right. This should be ingrained into your head.....anytime the gear lever is put in the down position you NEED to flip the "gate" button to the right. Are you LISTENING out there? Knock, knock, knock.....Flip that friggin "gate" lever to the right when you lower the landing gear........... It's simple...... Gear comes down, "gate" lever goes to the right. Gear comes down, "gate" lever goes to the right. Gear comes down, "gate" lever goes to the right. Gear comes down, "gate" lever goes to the right. Gear comes down, "gate" lever goes to the right. Got it? Just in case you don't understand..... Gear comes down, "gate" lever goes to the right. Gear comes down, "gate" lever goes to the right. Get it ingrained into your head....OK?
