Just thought you all might like to know Ann's condition.
Its quite remarkable really.
She has a massive tear of her upper forearm but NO broken bones! She went
into surgery and that has all been sewed back together.
Her head injury is not nearly as bad as it looked but the results of the CT
scan are still out.
Looks like she's gona make it.
She must be one tuff lady. She broke off 6 inches of the Tiger's prop!

Question...this is my second YAK and neither YAK had the rams horns attached to
the air intake box. One plane was directly from Russia and the other has been
flown in the US for about 8 years. One plane is a 1989 and the other 1991.
Do you leave them off or is ram air effected? I don't fly in cold weather so
I don't need them for their intended use. Also has someone come up with an airbox
air filter? Also neither plane have the what appeared to be covers over
the rudder cables in the front and rear cockpits. Nut plates are there and can
see where there was two in front and same in back hole at one time. Do I fabricate
some or are they left off on purpose? Who has a good idea for a gear
mounted landing light on each gear. If so please share part # and source. How
about a seat cover source that already has the pattern. On the rams horns
I need the clamps to secure to the exhaust. I found a set of new ones and probably
will put them one the 1991. When rebuilding the 89 and put them on it and
it has run flawlessly. I have seen a YAK advertised for sale with Cleveland
brakes. Called the guy but would never return my calls. Has someone else done
this and if so would they share pics and parts.
Thanks guys for the insight into spinning. This last plane I have had a devil
of a time getting it to spin. It is like a 150 a little power....stall...left
rudder...opposite aileron and then to keep it in a spin I had to aggravate and
hold those controls in stick back right aileron and left rudder or it will
just turn into a spiral and fly out. I removed all the radio and ADF gear from
rear and also that big heavy ADF ant. on the bottom belly of the plane. Guess
I need to do a new weight and balance.

Just a comment on the rudder cable covers: it is recommended to remove
them, so yours sound right. Where the "tunnel" starts for the cable to
pass through, it is possible to get ones foot caught (jammed) between
the rudder pedals and the tunnel. Mine still has them, and I have
jammed my foot in there during flat spin recovery. If you push the
other way (pro spin) you can of course reposition foot and then re-apply
anti-spin rudder, but it's not ideal. Especially if for example you had
someone flying back seat that then keeps the pressure on, the rudder
will not reach full deflection and you won't be able to extricate your
foot.
Can't help with the rest.

Does anyone recall the cubic inch displacement
of the housai engine. I believe it is the same as
the M14.
Thanks,

If my 318 Dodge engine is really 5.3 litres, then my Housai is approx 610 cu.in.

Thanks for the info on tunnels. Sounds logical. One less object to get
tangle foot! I'll keep searching on the other stuff.

Some people say that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before
it breaks. The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to
come. When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it
up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle is
soaring above it.
The eagle does not escape the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift it
higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm.
When the storms of life come upon us - and all of us will experience them -
we can rise above them by setting our minds and our belief toward the
Creator.
The storms do not have to overcome us. We can allow the Creator's power to
lift us above them.
The Creator enables us to ride the winds of the storm that bring sickness,
tragedy, failure and disappointment in our lives. We can soar above the
storm.
Remember, it is not the burdens of life that weigh us down, it is how we
handle them

Troops,
This was supposed to be a beautiful day.
The weather was just beautiful. Around 76F, light breeze out the East,
humidity around 30% with high alto cu.
The folks across the taxieway, daughter got married on their dock on the
airpark's pond/seaplane way. A marry time was had by all even though a
number of
the grooms quests were his fellow workers from our local FSDO.
Until -
Many of us didn't know it but earlier in the day, 3 of our seaplanes
based
here, headed for a flyout lunch along the St. Johns River. One of our
English
residents and his wife were flying their Tigermoth on floats. They have
owned
and flown the airplane for over 40 years. As he approached the shore
line,
she got out on the left float as she has always done. They were in a
slow taxi
when one float hit a submerged root causing her to fall into the idling
prop.
She is now in critical condition with massive injuries to her arm and
very
serious injuries to her head.
Please, thoughts and prayers for Ann. She is a very sweet person.

The manual might be interesting reading, but doesn't alter the fact that
Russian/Chinese chutes have no TSO, nor NAF/AAF/AN drawing number as
required by FAR 91.307 (e) for them to be sat upon in a flying airplane in
the US.
A foreiner could perhaps wear one IAW FAR 105.49.
