Russian parashute "C-4Y". --> Yak-List message posted by: YakL1@aol.com I believe that Comrade King is inspired to begin making his "twice a year" jumps. I don't care if he does it under Red Silk or Red White and Blue silk, but I wanna watch. Bottom line there will be those of us who have experienced the reliability of the YAK 52 and will fly with any Russian parachute made. Legally? Currently our tort system can demonstate that almost anything is illegal. How hard would it be to present a case? McDonalds is being sued for making people fat. The benefit of this discussion for me was to learn there is an english manual for repacking and the comment from our Russian friend that for any parachute to save our kister we should make two jumps a year and the chute should be professionally packed regardless of legality. Our planes have a big sign in the cockpit "EXPERIMENTAL" and at the end of the day our focus should be on safety and not legality. My experience is that the FAA does not want anything to do with anything experimental much less experimental exibition. Gees why do you think we had to sign that little FAA disclaimer when we put one of these birds together. This aircraft does not meet FAA..............I want a C-4y parachute and a manual to pack. I have two FAA approved US made parachutes that I will trade even for two Russian C-4Y parachutes and a manual to pack (in English). Let me know and I'll send details on chutes. I send e-mail to the manufactory with price request. Market price from "privet collectors" $300. In New York, Gardener we have a US certified Russian rigger, I personally tested his skills- had to open my reserve once. We have a pilot, ex military engineer/ test jumper, certified for service injection seats and all Russian emergency shuts (this guy was involve in rating procedure bailout from Ka-50 and Ka-52). We can organize the service your C-4Y and those who fling over the water can get a rubber bout packed inside the shut container with survive kit ( just an idea). Owner Kobelt (Wallkill airport) wont to organize air show this summer, I don't now all details yet. We have grate "Cavu" Restaurant-Bar several hundred yards from runway. George Cambron, who is an L-39 instructor pilot, Worldwide Warbirds chief pilot, and MiG-17 airshow pilot, was reported missing yesterday after not arriving at Deer Valley as expected. Reports are still sketchy, but he apparently reported an emergency at altitude (in the 30's) and was not heard from again. The aircraft has been found, but no sign of the pilot or parachute. Though not a Yak driver, he did recently go for his first ride in a CJ and loved it. I hope you will join us in our thoughts and prayers for him and his family... Imbalance caused him to loose bank control. Seat cold, drop tank jettison cold. He had a parachute with a 20 ft static line. No word yet, We pray for him and his family." The Department of Transportation (DOT) was established by an act of Congress, signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on October 15, 1966. Its first secretary, Alan S. Boyd, took office on January 16, 1967. The department's first official day of operation was April 1, 1967. You are correct that this was "after WW II", although I wouldn't term it "just after WW II". The Coast Guard history web site is http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/h_USCGhistory.html It makes reference to the Secretary of the Treasury directing this and that throughout the 18th, 19th, and 20th century, and includes the statements " "The Coast Guard was ordered to operate as part of the Navy on 1 November 1941. During the war, Coast Guard-manned ships sank 11 enemy submarines." and "The Coast Guard returned to the Treasury Department on Jan. 1, 1946." CNN reported on 2/26/03: WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Amid precision drills and military pomp, the U.S. Coast Guard came under the jurisdiction of the newly created Department of Homeland Security Tuesday, part of a unification process that represents the largest government reorganization since the Truman administration. The Coast Guard is one of 22 governmental departments that will be under the auspices of Homeland Security, a merger that will be fully completed by March 1. At that time, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge will be in charge of 175,000 employees. Tuesday afternoon, Ridge is scheduled to participate in ceremonies transferring the Customs Service, the Secret Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center from the Treasury and Justice departments to the Department of Homeland Security. There are many laws about airplanes and chutes in the US though. That is what we argue about. Thank you for the information about the serial number and the 12 year limit. Do you have some chutes for sale in New York? What year? While it does not look good, if anyone was going to come out of this alive, it is George. The terrain is quite inhospitable where he apparently went down, but there continues to be optimism that he bailed out... We ask for your continued prayers and support. I have seen both a nylon container and a natural cotton container variant in the US. The natural cotton container variant requires a much more frequent inspection (60 days I think), therefore make sure to get the nylon container version. Cheers, Zeman __________________________________
