Al, Yaksters;
About adapting the scuba tank to the YAK air fitting...........
I guess this method is just one more way to go about doing things.
Probly just as valid as the K bottle method I'm using with strut valves.
It never occurred to me to get emergency air from the fire department.
One advantage, I guess, is that a K bottle is huge compared to a scuba
tank. I can fill up my system about six or seven times before I need to
get another K bottle. I have extra capacity (about 2X) with my air
system because I plumed in a large oxygen bottle (filled with air) into
my air system. When I'm in upper slabovia and run out of air, all I need
to do is open the extra bottle.
Up here in the desert I'm much more likely to find a compressed air
distributor with K bottles than a dive shop.
Whatever works, I guess.......

The great thing about using a scott bottle is that just about every fire
station in the US has a way to fill them. So if you land at some
airport without an FBO, the local fire department can help fill your
bottle. They also hold about 2300psi. Btw, the K bottle system you
mention still has to be "bastardized" to fit in your system just like a
scuba bottle or a Scott bottle, so I don't see any additional value
there. Am I missing something?

This past weekend I put some LED's in Betty, my '83 CJ6A and thought
some of you may find this interesting.
I bought 6 each of the Red, White and Green LED's, and started
swapping...
These things seem to work best by using the LED color that most closely
matches the indicator filter color, i.e. put a Green LED behind the
Gear-Down green filter.... and Red LED for the Gear-Up indicators.
You COULD put the White LED's in all positions, but the blue-white
light they emit seems to tint the indicators to a new and maybe not so
pleasing color... especially with the green filters, which become kinda
cyan-like in color.
However, one advantage of the White LED's is that they have a wider
"viewing angle".
The green LED's seem to have the least-wide angle, even though the
documentation on the web site below says otherwise.
This may simply be due to the fact that they put out less lumens than
the Red ones, and therefore are not
as bright as the Red LED's.
This viewing angle, in my humble opinion, is not a limiting factor for
their use, they are just not quite so "bright" from the normal head
position in the cockpit as the original incandescent. The Red LED's
seem to be about the same brightness as the incandescent lamps were...
We may be able to remove the original color filters and just replace
them with clear ones and use the LED's for all color transmission...
but to be honest, I don't think I will go that far!
I plan on shooting some pictures soon comparing the incandescent lamps
vs. the LED's and posting them to the website for all to see.....
here's that link again for a source for the lamps... they are not
cheap. I think you could go through a whole lot of incandescents
before you would pay off the LED, but hey... the LED's should lat a
VERY long time... and they are kind cute. :)

But it is an improvement. Now anyone can spread rumors, tell lies, half-truths,

distributor and the M14 has a gland nut boss on the left side of the
accessory case for the tach.

My M14B (not P) accepts a 285 hp tac gen on left side acc pad. My 285 has
it's tac gen on a cable which goes to the start dist. It's mounted on the
engine mount leg and not directly on the start dist, but I have seen many
that are as you describe. The bolt pattern on the 285 hp tac gen fits up
perfectly on the M14B engine. I think that it just might work.

since the Gore / Bush election and you'd think this would have faded by now.
Gore was instrumental in getting legislation through to implement the internet
when he was in congress. As vice-president, he was the driving force behind
getting federal agencies to have web sites, even bringing agency heads into his
office to point out their lack of internet presense on his computer.
He never said he invented the internet. He said he was at the forefront in creating
the internet; which he most certainly was.
The internet was a government sponsored project, stemming from the ARPAnet and
DARPAnet research. Gore had the foresight to see the importance of the work,
to see it was funded, and to preach the internet to anybody in government he could.
The "ditto heads" seem to think the internet just sprang into being without
any funding and are willing to believe this lie about Gore without doing
their own research (plenty of google links to find out the whole of what he said
that day).
Say what else you will about the man (I certainly do), but give him credit where
credit is due.

Hmm, I don't remember that. He was in Congress with my father and since my father
chaired the oversight subcommittee for the Science and Technology committee,

Which he most certainly was not. As one of the people who actually *DID* help
invent the Internet I have some idea about which I speak.

The DOD funded the ARPAnet well before Al Gore was in Congress. NSF funded the
NSFnet, what the ARPAnet became in the early '80s but the universities were already
running with it. By 1991 the thrust to a commercial Internet was already
well in place.

And by then it really didn't matter. It already had a life of its own. It was
going to happen no matter what Mr. Gore did or did not do. And as someone who
spent time designing the protocols and implementing some of the early networks,
I find it annoying to have politicians trying to ride on the coattails of
people who actually did the work.

Government funding accelerated some parts of it but it was well established by
1980. Nothing was likely to stop it. The Universities were going to build it
out and all the NSF funding did was increase the capacity. But it was a done
deal and growing of its own accord.

I agree, and it ain't due to Al Gore. It is due to the work of about 200 core
people who created the protocols, who wrote the code, and built networks out of
cast-off computers, bailing wire, and chewing gum. Cisco and Sun already existed,
both the result of a development project in the EE department at Stanford.
Cisco was already building routers when the NSF was letting the contract
to IBM for the T3 routers (a series of IBM PC-RTs tied together on a token ring)
for the NSFnet T3 backbone.
So let's not give Al Gore more credit than he is due. He certainly did speak out
in favor of the development of the Internet but his voice was in no way instrumental
as to whether the Internet came into being. There were others in Congress
with just as much vision and there were others outside of government who
did much more to ensure that the Internet happened.
So, you can choose to believe what you wish, but I can safely say I never saw him
at any of the IETF meetings or at any of the early Interop "bake offs" where
the real work was done.

I'm sick of hearing this out of context misquote. It's been almost four years since
the Gore / Bush election and you'd think this would have faded by now. Gore

About adapting the scuba tank to the YAK air fitting...........
I guess this method is just one more way to go about doing things.
Probly just as valid as the K bottle method I'm using with strut valves.
It never occurred to me to get emergency air from the fire department.
One advantage, I guess, is that a K bottle is huge compared to a scuba
tank. I can fill up my system about six or seven times before I need to
get another K bottle. I have extra capacity (about 2X) with my air
system because I plumed in a large oxygen bottle (filled with air) into
my air system. When I'm in upper slabovia and run out of air, all I need
to do is open the extra bottle.
Up here in the desert I'm much more likely to find a compressed air
distributor with K bottles than a dive shop.
Whatever works, I guess.......

The great thing about using a scott bottle is that just about every fire
station in the US has a way to fill them. So if you land at some
airport without an FBO, the local fire department can help fill your
bottle. They also hold about 2300psi. Btw, the K bottle system you
mention still has to be "bastardized" to fit in your system just like a
scuba bottle or a Scott bottle, so I don't see any additional value
there. Am I missing something?
