Guys,
I operate out of the LA Basin. As a direct result of this I put in a
2nd landing light (other wing) AND a Pulselight system (like Southwest
uses, they're actually cheap units). The button for the Pulselight is
the lower throttle button. I also have a 3 light strobe system w/Comet
flash. How much good this will do for the guy in the C-210 checking
out his new color Garmin 296, I don't know, but at least I *feel*
better about being able to light myself up like a Christmas tree.
Interestingly enough, I have not had any scrapes with Bobanzas. I've
avoided a head on with a C-210 (he never moved....perhaps he was
playing chicken), had a C-172 appear underneath my wing at about 100
feet while doing a clearing turn during my Commercial training (see,
clearing turns are worth something), been almost run over by a 737
without a word from ATC...and my favorite...looking down at the top of
a loop and seeing a turbine Beech-18 on a "bug run" (dropping sterile
fruit flies) directly below me in the middle of the aerobatics practice
area. There is a published freq. for the area...apparently he was
taking a nap (they fly a GPS grid on auto-pilot) because even ATC got
mad 'cuz they couldn't raise him. Anyway, my loop turned into probably
the worst Immelman I've ever done!
So, yes, the LA basin does present a target rich environment....

Barry -
Why bother with all that electronic crap? Just put in a multi-ganged flare
dispenser unit ... Use WP flares and the whole valley will know you are
coming ...
