Whatever happened to the "Bear 360" that Skip Holm was
working on? Last I heard it was flying but I don't see any
press on it.

On this subject, my Yak-50 is up for sale again. Just got home from the
West Coast in my new R-44 and am re-hooked on helicopters. There is NOTHING
like seeing the US from 500 feet (give or take 400). I did 12 hours in the
air on Saturday and loved every minute of it. Missoula MT to Minneapolis in
one day! Took almost as long the day before from Portland to Missoula (my
built in headwind). Anyway, I need room in the hangar so the Yak's gotta
go.
If you, or anyone you know wants an old, pre-stiffened spar model Yak 50 let
me know off list. It will go reasonably priced. Only 100 SMOH, in annual,
375 TTSN. 77 model. Some will tell you it shouldn't be used for anything
but static display without the Spar mod as this early model was known to
have wings separate at as little as 14 G's. So if you are a real macho
pilot, this one just won't do. But, if like me, 4 or 5 G's is all your old
body can handle, I think this is one cool looking warbird wannabe for very
little cost and will safely get you into and out of most dogfights without
the wings falling off in the air.
Call if interested.

Craig;
Last I saw the Bear 360 it was parked in his hangar with the cowl off.
At the time (just before Oshkosh) he was doing flight testing and oil
cooler mods with the Rosco-Turner Replica. He's been out flying his
YAK-3 off and on and been doing some flying with the Rosco-Turner in
recent weeks. I think it's still sitting in his hanger waiting for when
he has time to concentrate on it again. But then this is only a guess on
my part.

Hi Bill,
My thoughts (based on 20% increase in HP)...
Increase in HP will increase thrust but something less
than 20%. Also this increased thrust will not likely
be uniform over the power curve. Taking both into
account, your brakes may have hold a bit more, but not
likely near 20%.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I like to do that in my CJ going across the midwest
too. Down at 100' AGL the headwinds tend to be less.
(Disclaimer: this is supposed to be a joke. I would *NEVER* fly my CJ that low.)

I need advise.
I run engine for a hour, shat it down, put my Yak-52 into hangar. 2 weeks later,
pull Yak outside and trait to star it- doesn't start. Primer don't pump the
full. I replace the primer seal- ho effect. I took prim pump a parts, it was same
rust on the transfer valve, I clean it, clean intake nozzle with WD-40, put
it together, installed it start working.
I pump 0.5 Atm, and I found other problem- rubber hose, between carburetor and
fine full filter, are leaking. Leak by the fine filter, under connection between
hose and fittings.
Is it possible to reattach the hose to it fitting? Or easer to by new one?
Thanks for advise.

Andrei,
That could be a real fire hazard with raw fuel being sprayed every where.
This happen to me once, when a friend noticed fuel spraying from under my
cowling during my starting procedure. It is best to replace the hose. I found
that
you can reuse the fittings that is on the hose and buy a US manufactured hose
that is very near the same sizes. You may even beadle to get metric hoses
from some of the suppliers on this list.

I have tried to reattach hose before and it seems they are glued (epoxied)
to the fitting. For the price and aggravation I have purchased hoses from
Carl W. Hayes Enterprises and Gesoco and have been pleased with both.
Without the correct mandrel (which you can purchase also) again it is very
difficult to make up hoses. The original fittings on my YAK 52 I finally
soaked in paint stripper before I could finally clean up the fittings.
Good luck

Another thing to look at is air leakage in any of the six (CJ-6)
pneumatic shuttle valves between normal and emer. system. This will cause
a weakened push into the uplocks. A kind of "snubbing" to the system.
Unfortunately, any one or more of the shuttle valves could be the
culprit. I've had a gear leg hang down because of this as well as the
mentioned failure to lock in the up position. A good practice is to
replace all of the shuttles every three or four years and keep them
lubricated!........John "oily gear handle" Finley

The kit Walt is referring to is Bu 079, we are in the process of supplying one
to a USA owner at this time. The cost is quite high along with the work to implement.
cost of kit is 3300 euro. a full set of instructions and photos also supplied in
a word file.
In the UK there is a directive that says the kit has to be fitted to all a/c over
300 hrs TTSN.

Dunno. Seems he likes expensive houses so on that basis I would figure him for
a G-V guy, not a Yak guy. But like most things of this nature I suspect this
is one of those bogus urban legends.
Regardless, I like rich people. They give me hope that I might become rich again
