Dennis:
1)On the Front Breather tube I use some poly filter material
wrapped around and secured with a clamp. Crude but
effective; also dampens out oil surges from negative G's or
turbulence. For the rear breather I installed a "Y" fitting
and run a hose from the oil tank vent. Thus the blast tube
supplies venting to the oil tank as well as crankcase.
2) Call Doug Sapp first.
3) Your air compressor isn't going to get much done in a 5
minute taxi. It takes between 10 - 20 mins for recharge in
flight, taxiing is done at low rpm, with little charging and
causes a drain on the system.

I've seen similar Problems on a CJ. There was a broken wire in the relay box
behind the pilot seat. This caused the regulator to kick in and out. causing
surging problems like blown Lights and GPS units

The crankcase breather tube is 1-1/4" diameter with 1-3/8" at the bead. K&N
filters makes a crankcase vent filter (3" dia. by 2-1/2" tall) that slips
right on and is retained by a hose clamp. You should be able to find one at your
local automotive speed shop or order from Jeg's www.jegs.com (part #
599-62-1440 @ $16.99).

In looking over all the Yaks registered in the USA at:
http://162.58.35.241/acdatabase/acmain.htm
I noticed that the YAK-55 is the only type of Yak listed as:
"Type Certificated"
All the rest are listed as:
"Amateur"
So I am curious if this has some implication for YAK-55 owners?

I have the opportunity to buy an M-14 prop spinner, for my HS6A. It seems that
the only thing required to make it fit is to create a new bolt attach plate for
the backing plate to line up with the bolts on the rear of the Hub.
Does anyone know of a source for these plates, or do I need to have them fabricated?
DOes anyone know of any other problems with fitting this spinner to my engine.
So far it looks like a no brainer, except that I would have to remove the
gills, and I would have to find new bolts which are 3/32 longer to accomodate
the backing plate mount.

I've been in the right wing position on one of those. It was a change of command
ceremony for the Wing Commander. No, not Horseman. Straight E models at Little
Rock AFB. As a nav, all I could do was watch. Pretty neat stuff having
to climb/descend some 300 feet+ in turns.

Bill was correct first, but Brain hit details on the nose. I know he's
nearly old enough but I bet he gets the same magazine.
Way to go "Sparky" & Bill. And I thought I was sooooo clever.

Don't remove the gills, they are there for a reason. The engine runs way to cool
without them.

Have you replaced the voltage regulator? It is a carbon pile type voltage
regulator and is located in the "hell hole" behind your left rudder peddle.
It snaps in place and is fairly easy to remove and replace. Getting to it
is always the challenge.

Subject: | Generator Warning Light ON in flight |
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Royden Heays" <HEAYSR@telus.net>
On my Yak 55M the electrical system has been running fine until
recently.
Lately, on a short cross-country, I noticed the generator light was on.
At the next run-up prior to T/O everything was back to normal. Gen light
off during warm-up and run-up, then on at full idle test. Voltmeter
recording 28 - 30V when gen light off and 24V when gen light on.
Everything was normal on the ground. In the air, after a bit of acro,
the gen light was back on again. We cleaned battery terminals and looked
for shorting cables but could find nothing.
At the next run-up everything was normal again up to the full idle test.
After that the gen light was on for keepers.
Have since checked the generator brushes. All 8 are 19 to 20 mm long (17
mm minimum). Generator looks fine.
Is this a regulator problem? If, so where is it and what is the fix? [My
manuals cover the generator but seem to be vacant on the regulator].
