Doug,
Do you have the whatchamacallit actuator device at the bottom of a gill which attaches
to the ring. Its the small cam like device which is riveted to the bottom
of the shutter with a slot.
I'm missing one, and need to replace it.

Red Stars:
Most of the A/C departed today under clear skys. Craig
Ekberg departed with a nice plaque for "Best CJ/Yak" at SNF
for his CJ-6A. Under the Judge's Choice category, Richard
Hess received "Newest Warbird" for his CJ-6G, and Fred
Souters got "Best New Warbird" for his Yak-52TW.
SNF also saw our 8-plane "Swan Formation", hope someone
posts pics. Leeward Ranch flyout was great as always under
perfect weather, featuring rareities such as a "Black Cat"
or PBY Catalina doing low passes, P-40E "Grand Champion
WW-II" and a variety of warbird acro during the lunch
airshow.
Published results from Aircraft Spruce's races show Yours
Truely winning "Sportsman" at 185.6 Knots....that's 213.7
MPH or 343.7 KPH. Since I finally got a clean run with good
engine and airframe preparation, I'll retire '85' from
formal competition. However, grudge matches are always
encouraged.
The Camel now has his head under the tent.
P.S. the long suffering T-34's had to fly BEHIND the RPA;

Ira:
I found exact replacement batteries at Portable Power Systems in Denver, Co. (www.portablepower.com). The part number is NP24-12B (sealed lead acid). The battery compartment in my 52 was modified to fit this battery which goes under teh trade name of Yuasa and/or Energysys. $45.95 each plus shipping as of January.

Check out the odyssey batteries. They are of the AGM variety, will hold
their charge for 2 years, are very light and powerful. You can use 2 of the
motorcycle sized ones which will provide more than enough power (my buddy
uses the same small ones to start his L-29). I bought the larger 920 CC amp
size to start my L-29. You can install them sideways or even upside down.

Ernie,
In order to get the whatchamacallit actuator device at the bottom of a gill,
you will need to buy the complete vane because it's a "riveted on" part of
the vane----- if I understand your ultra technical description. If this is
in fact the part that is riveted on the bottom of the gill I will need to
know which vane you need as there are several different types (left cut out,
right cut out for blast tubes, removable for prop gov access, and standard
with no cut out).
Don't you have a parts book?? It would save us both a lot of time if you
could supply part numbers, I don't mean to be a hard ass but the "thingy
that is hooked to the whatchamacallit" is not a description that I can work
with. To prevent me from spending a bunch of time looking up and send the
wrong part it would be best if I could have a part number to work with.
Always Yakin,
Doug Sapp

Sorry Doug, I dont have a parts manual it appears.
But you described it beautifully, I guess I need the entire vane then, its a
removeable vane (has the spring loaded lever at the top). Do I have to
remove the ring, to replace the vane or can it be done with the ring in
place? I'd hate to have to remove the prop to replace this.

We have a great opportunity to practice, and then show off, our groups mass formation
skillsand have the costs offset significantly. SkyFest 2004 Airshow in
Jackson, TN (MKL) wants us to appear October 2-3, 2004.
Terry Calloway got us in on this- Heres the deal: We will have an RPA Mass Formation
Clinic for two days before the show (Thursday and Friday, Sept 30 and Oct
1), with the commitment to then fly mass formations for their show on Saturday
and Sunday (Oct 2-3).
They will comp us up to 20 rooms for the clinic and the show. Practice fuel will
be discounted significantly ($0.50 per gallon) and fuel for the show will be
compd, as will smoke oil. They will provide transportation.
This show will be conducted in waivered airspace. This means we need FAST current
and qualified pilots for the show. To take advantage of the rooms, and fuel
deal, you need to be at least a commercial rated pilot.
Free rooms, transportation, cheap formation flying, and airshow exposurethis should
prove to be an all around good dealPlease put these dates on your calendar
and let me know that you are interested in attending. I believe we will have
a good number of people wanting to take advantage of this deal As the rooms
may be limited, I will take names on a first come basis.
