Well ran the survey for a couple of days and here are the results. There
were 32 responders and I am surprised by the Just Fly numbers. In answer to
the question which do you prefer to do in your redstar aircraft the answers
were:-
Formation: 34.38%
Just fly: 28.12%
Aerobatics: 21.88%
Air Combat: 15.62%
I am happy to post any other questions you are interested in.

Subject: | Low Oil Pressure |
--> Yak-List message posted by:
Hi all
I'm looking for some advice on an oil pressure problem
on my Yak-52.
Shortly after I got the aircraft last year, I had an
incident where the oil pressure dropped during flight.
I was fairly close to my home base, so I returned
there as quickly as possible. The oil level was about
9 litres. I filled up to 12 litres, and the oil
pressure seemed fine.
On a few subsequent flights the oil pressure has
dropped for a few minutes, and then returned to
normal.
Last week I was out practicing some aeros. The oil
pressure was normal at start, and remained in the 4-5
kg/sq cm range until the end of the sortie. My last
exercise was a one-turn spin. After recovery, the oil
pressure had dropped right down to about 1 kg/sq cm. I
check the pressure and temp prior to the start of each
sequence, so this was a sudden drop during the
exercise. I returned to the field immeditaely. Oil
level was 9 litres.
This morning I refilled to 12 litres. At startup the
oil pressure was fine, going up to 5 kg/sq cm.
However, as the engine warmed the oil pressure
dropped. By the time I was at holding point, it had
dropped to zero. I taxied back, and the oil pressure
climbed back to 3 kg/sq cm drung taxi. I shut down,
and checked oil level. The level was still at 12
litres. The only odd thing was that the oil appeared
to have some form of froth / bubbles, visible on the
dipstick.
In the in-flight incidents the prop RPM has remained
constant, and the oil temp has remained constant.
From what I can make out, it appears that this could
be due to the vent pipe clogging. Does anyone have any
suggestions of other potential problems?
If it is the vent pipe, what is the easiest way to
clean the pipe?

Here's something interesting. A "wiki" is an open source document that is maintained
by an interested public. The most famous wiki is the "Wikipedia," an open
source encyclopedia that is both broad and of surprisingly high quality. I just
made the first entry on Yak-52s. It is at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakovlev_Yak-52
The way wikis work is that anyone has editing rights. They depend upon public interest
and integrity to correct factual errors and add to each entry. It works
remarkably well. So, I invite you to have at the entry. Correct it, add to it,
etc. Let's see what we get.

This doesn't make any sense. yak-list is for everybody. Why support
another chat board which caters to everyone. The yak-list already does
a good job at that.
If RPA is going to support anything, shouldn't it be for a member only
chat room?
I for one don't have time to follow discussions on the same subject on
two different chat rooms, how can you possibly think this is a good
idea?

I agree Terry the one part that I do think is a good idea is setting up Yak
list type majordomo lists for the regions. I currently host one for the NE
but am happy to transfer that list to RPA if a list is set up there. This is
one area where local communications on the bigger Yak list can
a. Swamp the list
b. Make those of us not in the region where the event or local activity is
going on sad.
I think that a domo list, just like this, is the best way to service this,
Drew, if you guys need a hand setting these regional list up I am happy to
help. The trouble with chat boards is that they are "more difficult" to get
to.
