No. I haven't actually met up with any of our secret society since departing for
the Virgin Islands.
BTW, extensive research in the area has reinforced my supposition that the Virgin
Islands are inaccurately named. I still trying to find a virgin there.
Jah love, mon.

Hi Roger,
Guys, looks like Roger's Yak club just went public! From 8 members to
over 300 overnight, not a bad IPO... See what a little publicity in a
major newspaper can do? :)
Since you asked...I'm fine with a $40/hr. price increase for you guys.
The extra $20/hr. can go to lobbying funds to support drilling in
ANWAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or mercilessly flogging Robert Kennedy Jr., I'll let the voting members
make that choice.
Man, I love spending other people's money!
:)
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming....

Howdy y'all,
Now that the fuel island in out of service, we are being forced to
pay
$3.34 per gallon off the Western Truck. This is $1.16 per gallon MORE
than
we were paying about 6 months ago."
Roger
The more you can do to persuade those-who-decide not to increase the fuel
prices, the better. Before I left Scotland 3 years ago, I was paying over
$6 per gallon for the car and the plane. It was a painful experience
filling up both. I hope it never comes to that here in the US.

'Changers & Yakker's,
Once again the official results of the Sun 60 have been
revised. As first published, my speed was recorded as over
253 KNOTS. I expressed a wee bit of doubt, and showed the
Aircraft Spruce guy how my speed was posted higher than
everyone else's yet my elapsed time fell in place with the
others. "Computers don't lie" was the comment. My reply was
"true, but programmers screw up".
Round 2: They published 185.6 KNOTS in the Sun n Fun TODAY
paper, which was still a little funny since there was a
standing start and I held 180 KIAS all the way around at a
density altitude of 1500 ft.
Round 3: Somehow, another 3 miles got added to the distance
for a total of 63 statute miles, probably due to the course
being run in the opposite direction and my average recalc'ed
at 169.315 KNOTS, or 195 MPH, or 313.57 KPH. Darn, I really
wanted to average 200+ mph around the course.
Maybe there's hope for you guys yet.
Question: What is the Yak-52 capable of on the top end? Is
it possible to put some more waddle in her walk? George Coy
tells me that that big fat Clark Y wing would make it tough
to squeeze more knots out, let alone the dirty feet and
bridge rivets? Opinions?

I'm all for advocating safety. And I agree that all formation participants should
have a current FAST card. However, I find the method for getting that card
lacking.
I tried to get info for when FAST training would occur during SNF. All I got was
to "show up early". When I arrived one morning, I found out no training was
available due to a lack of qualified pilots to conduct training. I followed
a formationg to SNF to talk to Mike only to get stuck watching the show and never
finding Mike.
Look folks. If you want to have as many people as possible trained and current,
you're going to have to do a far better job of organizing training. A FAST
card is worth 15% off my insurance bill and is worth the privelege of enjoying
my airplane and my art with like minded pilots. Yet getting to be a member of
the FAST club is getting to point that it is not worth the effort.
Time to take a proactive approach or loose the battle for a lack of interest.

You know, the Yak-52 is strongly built. This is the equivalent of having your
friend tell you that the blind date [s]he set you up with, "has a really great
personality." For aerobatics this is good. For speed, this is bad.
Speed comes from aerodynamics. Climb comes from horsepower and weight reduction.
