Folks,
I have knocked together a simple we page to get TAFS/METARS and NEXRAD from
NOAA. you can view it at
http://www.gusfraser.com/cgi-bin/wtr
If you access this from your handspring treo 600 then it will come back as a
very light weight page that will upload quickly. When accessed from your PC
it will render in it's full form. If you don't have a Treo, get one they are
great. If you have a mobile/wireless phone that does not use the Blazer
browser then let me know what type of browser you use and I can configure
this for you. There are people out there who charge for this service but
guess what, this one is FREE.
If you don't like it, don't use it.
Gus

I am in the process of trying to put together a clinic to help fellow Red Star
members get their Commercial. I'd like to know how much interest there would
be...
I have had at least 3 people ask about getting their commercial tickets in the
last six months. (To take advantage of the good deals we sometimes get at airshows,
of course you need a commercial ticket....the free gas, smoke oil, rooms,
even a free hamburger are considered "compensation" by the FAA. I would be
very nervous showing up at one of these events without a commercial ticket...)
Here's the plan: show up with your written passed and requirements met, we spend
a day doing ground school prep, oral prep, discussing amneuvers, etc... then
spend a solid two days flying to get ready for the check, last day would be
the checkride. In a long weekend, you'd be complete. We would cater this just
for our group, and pair you with a CFI familiar with your aircraft. I already
have 4 CFI's and an examiner lined up.
Could you do this at your home airport? Sure...but getting a CFI familiar with
or willing to fly in your Yak, and finding a Yak friendly Designee might be a
challenge.
If this sounds interesting to you, drop me an e-mail. I am thinking about setting
this up for August timeframe in Memphis, TN.

Somebody on the list sold me a Russian accessory supposedly to air up a YAK52.
It had a rubber boot on the airplane end so stupid me just never took it off
until I wanted to use it. It has threads instead of the twist lock fitting we
find on the YAK 52. It has two wing shaped handles for tightening the threads
on the male fitting that would be found on the plane. Maybe this is for the
jets and not the 52's. Is there something I am missing. It sure looks Russian
and it looks like its purpose is to put air into a plane but not a YAK52.
If the guy who sold it to me is monitoring the list email me off line and tell
me what else I need to make it work. I think we were both thinking it would
twist lock. Maybe the incorrect part was shipped. Ah I found the shipping carton
but I have lost his email address. It came from Triad Services in Phoenix.
Somebody hook me up with his email.
Thanks
Jim Enkema

Jim,
You can solve your problem forever for less than $10 by installing a
Schrader valve through the cap on the airplane. Then you can use a Schrader
valve fitting from the tank to fill the airplane.
