Sounds like you had a great time. Yup, the -52 winds up - -55 and
Sukhoi also do. It's the power thing, inertia... They all (Russian
-52, -55, Sukhoi) are totally honest. You ask them to go flat - they do
- you ask for recovery - they do. Did you do the US or Russian
recovery? The Sukhoi manual and when Azat worked with me tells you if
you wish a faster recovery you fly INTO the spin and not against it -
the ailerons connect and you fly away in less than a turn. Pretty
impressive. Pulling power causes them to want to play "lawn dart", nose
down and you cxan recover from there.
There are probably as many different "tumble" entries as people doing
them. I was taught three. Pull Up 45 degree - 90 roll to right knife
edge - 230 kph - aggressively push left rudder and bury the stick in
right forward corner and hold it there until tumbling stops and you are
in - inverted flat accelerated spin - recover from that. Abracadabra I
think he called that one.
The left rudder and right forward stick will tumble from about any
attitude. From a vertical - right forward stick and right rudder will
get you Edelweiss. They start from outside flick.
This is not to be misconstrued to be instruction or even suggestion to
try any gyroscopic. Get the dual - and have a blast. Ask the Colorado
Yak Pac, Azat and I tumbled with them at Lamar, CO a couple of years a
go - they left giggling like school girls.
Seriously, get the training, be safe, have fun. It took a full day of
training inverted flat accelerated spin recoveries (on heading...)
before Azat or Vladimir Radomsky would let me tumble.
BTW, I just got done with 5 day camp with Nik Timofeev helping me with
my Unlimited, others with Sportsman. Nik is out there (Ocala, FL) and
is a great source for dual and/or critiquing. Judges told me after the
Contest that I'm flying the best I ever have in Unlimited, thanks to
Nik.
Respectfully, Rick

Yaksters;
In talking about the right flat spin of the 52 all I can say is (in
the
immortal words of a fellow MIG pilot) is that it "really winds up". I
got the very same impression when flying with Oleg. It really does
"wind
up". I got the distinct impression that I had to hold it in to keep
it
in the flat spin though the recovery did take a few turns. Anyone want
to interject their impressions? Everything was happening so fast I
couldn't really analyze what was going on except by using "seat of the
pants" impressions. Every other spin recovery seemed conventional for
me except that Oleg kept chastising me to slow down with the
recovery...... "YAK-52 like fine woman, go slow and things work
good"..
Did anyone else have that impression?
Another interesting aspect of his training was the "if everything goes
haywire and you don't know what's upside down or rightside up, just
pull
off power, hold onto the canopy rails and wait" maneuver. Took me
awhile
to get used to that one but sure as hell the 52 found it's nose and
pointed the way back, so to speak. Not sure it would do that from the
flat spin though.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know how he gets you into the Lomchevak?
I
think I know but since Oleg's spin entry was unusual for me I wonder
if
his Lomchevak entry is different as well? I saw him and George Lazic
above the field tumbling around like crazy. Wished I would have
thought
to ask him to show me that maneuver.

Well, with a Walter turbine sucking the fuel, you'd have about a 2 hour
range with 100 gallons. The fuel specifics are horrible, but think
about that 80 degree Vne climb! :)

Anyone have any spare / junk ignition harness conduit?
I need the conduit that goes from the very bottom left of the ignition "Ring" to
the front plug of the #5 cylinder.
It's a pretty long one.
The conduit on the inside of mine is all FUBAR and is chaffing the ignition lead
and causing "leaks" of the Hi-tension to ground.
I've replaced that wire twice now and realize realize the problem is the conduit.
Please advise off list.

Try David Redmond. He's selling off parts of an M14 and may just have one.

Dennis and all,
I have several harnesses that I am pulling down for parts to keep everyone
in the air. 285 and Housai are the same.
Always Yakin,
Doug Sapp
