Subject: Official Usage Guideline [Please Read] [Monthly Posting]
DNA: do not archive --> Yak-List message posted by: Matt Dralle <dralle@matronics.com> Dear Lister, Please read over the Yak-List Usage Guidelines below. The complete Yak-List FAQ including these Usage Guidelines can be found at the following URL: http://www.matronics.com/FAQs/Yak-List.FAQ.html Thank you, Matt Dralle Matronics Email List Administrator ****************************************************************************** Yak-List Usage Guidelines ****************************************************************************** The following details the official Usage Guidelines for the Yak-List. You are encouraged to read it carefully, and to abide by the rules therein. Failure to use the Yak-List in the manner described below may result in the removal of the subscribers from the List. Yak-List Policy Statement The purpose of the Yak-List is to provide a forum of discussion for things related to this particular discussion group. The List's goals are to serve as an information resource to its members; to deliver high-quality content; to provide moral support; to foster camaraderie among its members; and to support safe operation. Reaching these goals requires the participation and cooperation of each and every member of the List. To this end, the following guidelines have been established: - Please keep all posts related to the List at some level. Do not submit posts concerning computer viruses, urban legends, random humor, long lost buddies' phone numbers, etc. etc. - THINK carefully before you write. Ask yourself if your post will be relevant to everyone. If you have to wonder about that, DON'T send it. - Remember that your post will be included for posterity in an archive that is growing in size at an extraordinary rate. Try to be concise and terse in your posts. Avoid overly wordy and lengthy posts and responses. - Keep your signature brief. Please include your name, email address, aircraft type/tail number, and geographic location. A short line about where you are in the building process is also nice. Avoid bulky signatures with character graphics; they consume unnecessary space in the archive. - DON'T post requests to the List for information when that info is easily obtainable from other widely available sources. Consult the web page or FAQ first. - If you want to respond to a post, DO keep the "Subject:" line of your response the same as that of the original post. This makes it easy to find threads in the archive. - When responding, NEVER quote the *entire* original post in your response. DO use lines from the original post to help "tune in" the reader to the topic at hand, but be selective. The impact that quoting the entire original post has on the size of the archive can not be overstated! - When the poster asks you to respond to him/her personally, DO NOT then go ahead and reply to the List. Be aware that clicking the "reply" button on your mail package does not necessarily send your response to the original poster. You might have to actively address your response with the original poster's email address. - DO NOT use the List to respond to a post unless you have something to add that is relevant and has a broad appeal. "Way to go!", "I agree", and "Congratulations" are all responses that are better sent to the original poster directly, rather than to the List at large. - When responding to others' posts, avoid the feeling that you need to comment on every last point in their posts, unless you can truly contribute something valuable. - Feel free to disagree with other viewpoints, BUT keep your tone polite and respectful. Don't make snide comments, personally attack other listers, or take the moral high ground on an obviously controversial issue. This will only cause a pointless debate that will hurt feelings, waste bandwidth and resolve nothing. ------- [This is an automated posting.]

--> Yak-List message posted by: "Duncan aka Russ" <Duncan1574@hotmail.com> When I left on Wednesday we had logged 135 hours of formation flying with varying amounts of aircraft. At one point we had 23 planes on the ramp at MTW. A great showing with great pilots and great birthday cake! The local EAA chapter did an excellent job (as usual). Herb and I are going to have a debriefing/planning session in the next couple of weeks to go over this year and start planning for next year (for instance: we are thinking about hiring a Native American Shaman to do a no-rain ceremony for the East Coast). Rick B >>> sdalton@goeaston.net 8/1/2004 9:27:13 AM >>> --> Yak-List message posted by: "Steve Dalton" <sdalton@goeaston.net> Fellow Yakkers, While at OSH/MTW we had the opportunity to compare the new -29 MT blades to the older -27 blades most of us have on MT props. We used three -52TW's for the test. We used Ski's and my -52TW's with the -27 blades, and Paul Horning's new -52TW with the new -29 blades. All aircraft had the same engine (400 hp) and fuel load (we had just topped off at OSH). Ski had a backseater while Paul and I were solo. We flew close line abreast formation for the tests (Paul in the lead, with Ski and I on his wings). We all set the same power settings and watched to see who was fastest. We left the power set long enough to see the effects. Power settings tested were 1900 rpm/27 inches (cruise), 2400 rpm/32 inches (climb), and 2900 rpm/36 inches (max power). We also tried a climb test with 2400/32 set and a 110 mph climb speed. Result: Absolutely no difference. Ski would drop back a couple feet in a half minute (he had the backseater), but Paul and I flew perfectly side by side. (On the full power test Paul was maybe 1/2 a knot faster, but his tach was reading a little higher than Ski and I.) I'm sure all our gauges are not exactly the same, but I'm also sure all three planes gauges are close enough to show that the new -29 blades don't do much (if anything) to enhance performance on the -52TW. However, the big MT spinner Paul had is really nice. It looks much better on the -52 than the little spinner. Regards, Steve Dalton

Subject: New -29 MT Prop Blades
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Richard Goode" <richard.goode@russianaeros.com> New -29 MT Prop Blades I read Steve Dalton's report on MTV-9 propeller blades, comparing the -27 and -29. Although we sell a lot of MT props into the aerobatic community, I have no particular axe to grind, except to suggest that the only true way to evaluate a prop (or anything else for that matter) is on the same aeroplane, and if not on the same day, then corrected for any temperature and other variations. The simple fact is that engines vary considerably in power, and there are many other factors which will affect the performance of one aeroplane as opposed to another. I can say that we have conducted very precise back to back tests on a Sukhoi Su-31, comparing -27 and -29 blades. The tests were done on the same day, but even so correction was given for temperature and pressure changes. I attach the results, and it can be seen that there was a very noticeable increase in performance in almost every parameter, although in one there was a very slight reduction. I hope this helps. Assume: - The a/c has a CV prop. - The engine's HP increases by 20% by using a higher compression supercharger - The maximum prop RPM stays the same. - The engine run up occurs at 70% max RPM. I would expect that the brake holding force would have to increase, by 70% of 20% or 14%. Comments and opinions solicited! Bill Halverson == == == ==

Is not a debate about the songs, so no busting each others choices! After I have more songs I'll put a poll together on the Red Star website so we can pick our favorites. This is a hint: (this could become a RedStar music CD). + Top Gun Theme + Several other tunes from Top Gun (I'll have the names for the poll) + Miami Vice theme + The A-team theme + Gerry McGuire (The 7th Calvary theme from the Errol Flynn movie) + Good Vibrations + Old 633 (6 3 3 Squadron, Mossie movie) + This Magic Moment (gleaned from de-briefs at MTW/OSH 2004) Russ "Air Boss" Witte-Dycus

This list I have so far.
