Right. You are 100% right.
The problem is, we are suffering at the hands of the Bush
administration. I cannot remember when any administration was more
hostile to the rights of the individual than the Bush administration is
now. I cannot remember when any administration was more hostile to
general aviation than the Bush administration is now.
From 1968 until 2001 I used to fly fat, dumb, and happy all over the
US. I avoided the restricted and prohibited areas on the charts, dealt
with TCAs/class-B airspaces usually by flying over them unless I was
landing there, and generally didn't worry. When I left the country and
returned the customs agents were cordial, friendly, and helpful.
Flying in the US was a joy unmatched anywhere else in the world.
But now I fly in fear of violating special-use airspace that seems to
spring up out of nowhere at any time at all. I wouldn't even *think*
of flying without flight following or IFR now. It is my last bastion
of hope to avoid "surprise" areas with TFRs.
When I deal with customs and immigration (now the Department of
Homeland Security), and agency of the Executive Branch of Government, I
know that I am in an adversarial encounter from the get go. The last
time I cleared-in in Florida the DoHS officer cackled with glee over
having recently had the pleasure to have confiscated someone's airplane
because he had made an "unapproved" trip to Cuba in the last year.
They -*< TOOK HIS AIRPLANE >*- because he hadn't gotten the *proper*
*approval* to go to another country?!? A friend is fighting a $5000
fine because they claim he didn't notify customs the required 1 hour
before arrival. It doesn't matter that he has several witnesses saying
that he called them, one of whom actually dialed the phone. DoHS lost
the information and he is going to get stuck for a $5000 fine because
some bureaucratic ass is not willing to admit he made a mistake and
forgot to log the call. (Be sure you get the name of the agent who
takes your call to schedule your customs visit.) They don't *CARE*!
They don't HAVE TO CARE. The piss-ant bureaucrats have the power now
to do anything they damn well please and they love it, individual
rights be damned.
I participated in lobbying the Bush administration to arm airline
pilots. The Bush Administration said, "not only no but hell no." The
funny thing is that it was the Congress that went the other way in
conflict with their party leader. Go figure. Has the administration
aided in the implementation of the law? No. The administration has
been just as obstructionist as they could possibly be.
So this isn't Kerry that is doing all of these things to me. This
isn't statute law that I could lay at the feet of Congress. It is
administrative law. This lies directly at the feet of the president.
So when faced with the choice between Bush and Kerry I see I have no
choice at all. My choice is the screwing I am getting or the screwing
I am going to get. I am sick and tired of being presented with the
choice between the lesser of two evils.
So tell me, what choice do I have?

Actually, it was 20 years ago yesterday. I was a 16 year old zit face "Air
Cadet" when on August 6th 1984 received my Glider Pilot "Wings" with a
fabulous 8.3hrs total time. Today, 20 years and 6000hrs later, I lost the
zit face and the hair, but still have as much fun as ever.

If you and your liberal politicians with their liberal immigration
policies wouldn't have allowed an incompatible element of freedom (take
that to mean radical muslims) to immigrate into this country then we
wouldn't have the problems we have now.
If you want the old time freedoms we once enjoyed then we need to get
rid of the radical muslims in this country. I just can't but help wonder
what liberal genius thought that letting them immigrate wouldn't bring
their third world problems to our soil. Liberal elements say that they
have the same rights as anyone else. Sorry, but I disagree. They are the
antithesis to freedom, always will be and you can't change them (their
religion (cult) won't allow it). Time to wake up and realize that there
are some peoples who will never have the same view of freedom as you and
I do.
We need to do what was done during WWII and round them up and then ship
em' out. Any other course of action is doomed to fail. Until that
happens we will always be saddled with a violent muslim religion (really
a cult by all definitions) that will forever breed radicalism. Your
(our) freedoms will always be limited as long as that element exists in
our society. Your liberal, good hearted stance of acceptance of their
society will be what limits your freedoms. Liberals like you have
outsmarted yourselves and that only hurts our freedoms. It doesn't
enhance them as you are so want to say. It is the liberal idiots that so
willingly espouses their freedoms......as though that action will
somehow cause them to like us and accept our society and our freedoms
and thus cause them to want to do us no harm. They walk around like a
big men showing how much of a genius they are by championing their
rights........yet blind to the effect it has on the freedoms of the rest
of us.
We are in for a long campaign in the fight for freedom. It will take
generations to change the muslim mindset and I am not convinced it can
happen. Actually, I think it can't happen. To change their mindset is
like telling a Catholic priest that God doesn't exist........just won't
happen. Unfortunately, the freedom of the air is a freedom that can be
used against us. Given there is a muslim element bent on our total
destruction, who will use any means at their disposal to kill us, you
will have to suffer some loss of your freedoms. Get used to it! We don't
live in the 60's anymore.

By-the-way, the best thing that can happen to this country right now is
a massive shift to the right. We need to let liberal politicians, who
allowed the immigration of violent religions to occur, to know that we
won't stand for it. In fact, we need to ship em' out if we ever want the
freedoms we once enjoyed.

We need to boot out not just the radical muslims, but ALL the illegal aliens
which BOTH political parties allow to flood our shores and degrade our
heritage. We need to realize that we are in a war which will ONLY be one by the
extirpation of those who espouse toxic wahibism, and those who support, defend
and shelter them. We have the technical means to accomplish this without
delay, we lack only the political will...Our country has been overrun by those
who despise our traditions and the sacrifices of our forefathers. The same
fools in the liberal media who feel it only "fair" to encourage marriage
between perverts, who will ever and always choose the balkanization of "identity
politics" over a realistic appraisal of the common good, have already selected
the next President and are doing all they can to insure his election. He,
like his recent "liberal" colleagues, will sell our country even farther down
the river. He has no plan...he just wants to "be President". I weep for the
country my daughter will inherit.
