I enjoy coming here for the news, info, advice, tips, and flying stories. If I want to hear what is wrong with the world, I will head to CNN. In the words of the great orator Rodney King; "Can't we all just get along?" Jim Kimball Enterprises has a kit that converts all the metric fittings on the M-14 to AN type threads so that American hoses and fitting can be used. Surprise: I am NOT going to suggest that we all convert to American hoses and fittings on our Russian aircraft. However, there is a real need for being able to hook up to various metric lines, fittings, hardware, etc., in Sukes and Yaks and connect them to American hardware using AN type fittings. A good example of this is the never ending plague of air leaks that often occur in our aircraft, that are sometimes slow and continuous, and rather difficult to pin down. Being able to cap certain fittings and injecting air at other than normal locations can be a God Send when troubleshooting stuff like this. Being able to connect shop high pressure air directly to a landing gear actuator you just rebuilt is another good example of this kind of need. Jim Kimball is building me a set of these fittings expressly for this purpose and I suspect that they are going to be invaluable. I will write a report on which ones are most useful after I get them and possibly Jim can put together a kit just for people like us, with this particular need. Jim is amazingly responsive to peoples requests! I am writing this note in the meantime just to let you know that these things are available NOW and where to get them if you have a really hot immediate need. I know that the units that do this are not cheap. I know that the units that do this are not cheap. The Sanders brothers in Ione, CA, make the "Smokewinder". It is a standard AIM-9 package that generates smoke on demand. I it uses the standard plug and is compatible with all the NATO standard weapons delivery packages so if you select air-to-air, arm, and launch, it turns on the smoke. After that, the release switch on your grip turns the smoke on and off. If you have hard-points for NATO standard AIM's it is a bolt-on solution for you. Looks just right on your F-16. Just pressed in from ILG. Stopped in Fredericsburg, VA. to have breakfast with Mark Schelly and family and got a quick tour of the battle grounds where the Rebs kicked a lot of Blue backsides during the War of Northern Oppression. (ALWAYS put your artillary on the highest hill.) After a great breakfast and catching up on the sizes his kids have grown, I headed for Duplin Co. in NC. Who should I see as I pulled up to the pump? Sergi! Let me tell you, he had one good look'n student (blond #10) there. I touch down at FD44 after 33.57 hours of my OSH/MTW adventure. There was a level 5 TS to the west of home plate but that was the only weather I saw all the way from ILG. I'm now off to get a good steak at my local Pub. Its nice to be home.
