Hmmm, CBS did Airparks, NBC wants to show how eary is it to:
(insert subject here), FOX did Nuke plants a few years ago,
photographed circling a Nuke from a 'copter (while the pilot
was talking to ATC) BIG expose here.
So what is ABC up to? Double check them incoming Porta
Potties at airshows to be sure they are not filled with
Simulated Terrorists.

You know what? Terrorists can get into the US and do bad things. We
*KNOW* this. It is *NOT* going to change short of implementing a
police state. Still, I am far more likely to die at the hands of a
drunk driver than at the hands of a terrorist so I am not going to get
all worked up about it.

Did anyone else see what that wanker Hal Fishman said in his commentary
a couple of days ago? And he is a pilot! For those of you who don't
know him, he is the news anchor at KTLA-5 in Los Angeles. KTLA is
carried as a "superstation" on many of the cable and DBS TV feeds. He
posted a commentary about how GA could be used for terrorist activities
which bordered on someone yelling "fire" in a crowded movie house.
These know-nothing media weenies who are "out to protect the people"
make me want to scream. Bloody demagogues.
BTW, here is the first sentence in his reply to my comment to him:
"Brian: As a pilot I understand your concerns, but from my point of
view I put the welfare of the people in our communities before my love
of flying."
Oh puh-leeze!
In his "commentary" he went on to talk about how he and his airplane
could be used for terrorist attacks, most of it just BS. But people
listen and believe so we end up with yet another public relations
problem. Grrrr.
Barry; you probably know this guy. Go knock some sense into him.
If anyone wants to see my exchange with him I will be happy to forward
it to you. If enough people want to see it I will post it here. I
have already sent the whole thing along to the AOPA in hopes they can
do some damage control.

Did NBC do a story on how unsuccessful their two "hijackers" were? That
would certainly be very telling if they kept mum... along the lines Brian
recently pointed out.

I am going to propose to AOPA that on my membership they should offer me the
opportunity to contribute $5 or whatever with my membership that can go into
a bounty fund. That way when someone makes a good hit, like this guy AOPA ca
award a bounty. That way we can show our appreciation of those 'airport
bums' dong the right thing. Any thoughts on a process like this ??

Yep, Charlie's out to get me...Here I sit waiting, inland,
but within the path of the hurricane landfall. Windows are
taped, spare ice in the coolers for the Dos Equis Amber and
Honey Weiss when the power goes.
"Baby" is tied down in the hanger, control locks on, moving
pads over the canopy, prop and spinner. The hanger doors are
"pinned" into the concrete with foot long spikes.
My wife seems to think I should stay home with her rather
than with baby. Go figure. So I'll stand by with Doug Sapp's
parts list, and telephone numbers for Doug and Tom Johnson
my aircraft insurance agent. "No Tom, that was a Garmin 195,
er ah, 530, that's right a 530 sucked right out of the panel
without even damaging the canopy, wow"!

Yep, I'm sitting here doing the same, fortunately I live with my hangar next
door. Thats 30KW generator in my hangar ought to make things tolerable
though since we are expected to lose power for up to several days inland and
even longer along the coast.
I'm just glad that my house and hangar are constructed like fallout

I think it is a great idea. Let's make sure the bounty is double for

A few thoughts:
Copy any and all articles pertaining to this event and post them all over
the bulletin board of your local airport. Make as many people aware of this
as possible. This link:
http://www.aaae.org/government/150_Security_Central/200_Security_News/
shows that only a few "local papers" have carried this story, while it
clearly should be national.
Next, think of ways to ensure that the NBC employees involved get prosecuted
to the full extent of the law. This includes their employers who either
told them or "cleared" them to participate in this event. Our news media
should not be above the law, and Freedom of Speech does not give these
people the right to pull this kind of nonsense.
Send this story to your local news media and see if they'll run it. Get
your local news media out to YOUR local airport and show them how security
conscious all of General Aviation really is!
Take the time to write some letters. Find out who exactly is prosecuting
this case, and send letters of support and ask them to make examples of
these neo-terrorists! Follow up with letters to your usual list of
politicians.
Whatever you do... don't sit around getting angry. Instead sit around and
think of ways to get even.

> Earlier today two Middle Eastern men attempted to penetrate our security.
They telephoned one of my helicopter FBOs and asked about a charter flight.
After discussion of price and directions to the business, they arrived an
hour later. When the office agent asked how they were going to pay for the
flight they produced cash. When asked for ID, they produced driver's
licenses from two different states and they were driving a car licensed in a
third state.
>
>
> Things didn't smell right so the mechanic took them into the hangar to see
the aircraft while the office person called the FBI and local police. The
helicopter they were going to fly was blocked in by other aircraft so the
mechanic was able to stall them by having to slowly shuffle the blocking
planes. Meanwhile the two men got their backpacks and odd-shaped luggage
out of their car. Soon the local police arrived and they were hauled off to
jail in handcuffs.
>
>
> After a little time behind bars, the FBI verified that the two men were
employed by NBC New York and were on assignment to get a story of how easy
it is to charter a helicopter for a terrorist attack. The men had stayed in
a local hotel and purchased box cutters, leather-man knives, and other
potential weapons at the local Wal-Mart using a credit card. The box
cutters had been hidden in the lining at the bottom of the back packs and
the other weapons were hidden throughout their baggage. They had audiotaped
the telephone conversation with Arlene and were going to use it as part of a
national news story about how easy it is to get information and directions
to the location of the helicopter and then hijack it to commit a terrorist
attack.
>
>
> I doubt they will be back at our airport soon and this is a story that
will never be seen since they were caught. A very "well-done" to my FBO and
staff and the local FBI and police response forces. We have since learned
that we were the first airport where this had been attempted and NBC planned
to attempt similar penetration stories around the country. Please helm me
spread the word to other airports.

Thanks ... and it is a unique suggestion to say the least ... a little
cumbersome to administer on short order ... but surely AOPA can "recognize"
the good deeds with a special award we have been batting around and the
appropriate publicity.
More as it develops.
Thanks for the participation in the Airport Support Network program.

I think it is a great idea. Let's make sure the bounty is double for
nailing "investigative reporters" who are trying to "look out for the
people."

Yep Ernie, we're stuck.
Poor old Craig Payne, at this moment he's getting his ass kicked down south.
Well, take it from an old Florida (The State where US presidents are elected)
boy, drink the beer before it gets warm.
Pray for us folks. I hear thunder close by. Over and out.

Ass kicked???? From what I've been seeing on the news. reporters are
clamoring to get a shot of a puddle. I'm going to throw my garbage can in
the street just so we have something to talk about. Tampa is seeing winds of
about 5 to 10 MPH, Lakeland is getting a whopping 20 MPH. Ft Meyers, and
Charlotte Harbor which got hit head on has seen virtually NO storm surge,
but some pretty stiff winds. This is nothing more than a large tropical
storm with high winds in a very small center.
Much ado about nothing.

Jim,
Hows the weather up by you???? We're getting nothing here in Ocala, but I'm
seeing some pretty nasty weather towards Flagler. The storm must be avoiding
me because I prepared for it. If I would have left all the patio furniture
up and not gassed up the generator things might have been different :)
Looks like anyone in its direct path is getting slammed.

Disregard everything I said. It seems like it is perfectly legal to carry
knives, box cutters, et.al, and make any attempt you want to in order to
test General Aviation airport security. This is especially true if you work
for NBC.
I wonder what would happen to the normal everyday citizen that tried
something so stupid as this?
NBC.... when there isn't any news to report, they'll make their own.
Sigh....

I was calmly reading e-mail when this came in. Now I can't take enough
lopressor to keep my blood pressure from red-lining.
First it was Daley (our domestic terrorist) destroying Meigs, then CBS
ambushed airparks, now NBC is joining in.

They telephoned one of my helicopter FBOs and asked about a charter flight.
After discussion of price and directions to the business, they arrived an
hour later. When the office agent asked how they were going to pay for the
flight they produced cash. When asked for ID, they produced driver's
licenses from two different states and they were driving a car licensed in a
third state.

the aircraft while the office person called the FBI and local police. The
helicopter they were going to fly was blocked in by other aircraft so the
mechanic was able to stall them by having to slowly shuffle the blocking

Cow Tracking - The Solution
Is it just me or does anyone else find it absolutely
amazing that the
U.S. government can track a cow born in Canada almost three
years ago,
right to the stall where she sleeps in the state of
Washington, and
determine exactly what that cow ate. They can also track
her calves
right to their stalls, and tell you what kind of feed they
ate.But
they
are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering
around in our
country, including people that are trying to blow up
important
structures in the U.S. !!!!!
My solution is to give all illegal aliens a cow as soon as
they enter
the country.
