Well, charlie completely missed us here at Leeward. But the storm had cut a swath
through the center of the state. Several airports have been desimated. At Orlando
executive airport, GA aircraft had been completely destroyed. A DC-3 had
been picked up by the storm and dropped on a hangar. At MCO the Hangard doors
at Galaxy aviation( FBO at the GA ramp) had been blown in. Further south similar
stories of destroyed hangars and planes.

Would any CJ'ers know if the Fluorescent cockpit lamps can
be re-cycled with 28V lamps and rewired? They are nice
pieces of hardware but I threw out the single phase AC long
ago. Another solution would be to find a light duty 28VDC to
115VAC solid state inverter.

Troops, and all.
All's well, thank you. Charley passed south of us (30nm). We lost power for
just 3 minutes, little rain but lots of lighting. The leaf blower cleaned up
the
mess easily.

Glad to here from you Jim.
My wife came thru Orlando southbound today and
saw a lot of damage. I was worried about your area.
My friends in the Punta Gorda were not lucky.

Jim,
Glad to hear you are okay!
As Terry mentioned, many in the Ft. Myers and vicinity were not so
fortunate.
I am sure Ernie now has a newly earned respect for the power of a Hurricane.
One tends to underestimate a Hurricane visit until they get one in their
front yard - we found that out with Andrew in Miami in 1992...

Yep. When I was 7 (1947) the hurricane took the roof off our home (We lived
right where the 36th street expressway crosses the river back than). Because
of the flooding for 3 weeks we had to get typhoid shots and keep constant look
out for snakes. 3 years later in our new home (north Hialeah) that hurricane
took off that roof too. Than there was the hurricane of 1962, I was working
for Mary Gaffany back than, and sense the Keys took the full force, I flew a
lot of charters down to Marathon, where people got boats to ferry them to the
different islands sense the all the bridges had been wash out. Not one person
who stay in the Keys during that hurricane survided. The Gulf of Mexico side
of the Keys looked like a giant floating junk yard. Key West was without
fresh water for months because the water main had to be totally rebuilt. There
was huge oil barge sitting across US 1 right next to the Marathon airport and I
saw fish (one a 4' barracuda) lashing about in deep puddles and drainage
ditches.
God! I love this land!

Of course - remember the exploding pickup trucks?!?! Wasn't that NBC news
that staged that little bit of journalistic creativity?
