Mark,
I will forward your email to two highly experienced Yak 52 flight
instructors who, if available, will be able to check you out in your
airplane. At least one of them should get back with you shortly.
Regards,
Dennis

Group,
Good morning.
Canopy glass:
~ Aerotrader in Chino used our molds and makes Yak canopies for us. We now
refer customers directly to them. You can give Carl a call at 909-597-4020.
They are located in Chino, CA. The comment about Cee Bailey's glass not being
the correct thickness and cracking is one I have also heard from several customers.
~ Based upon our experience replacing the canopy glass on Yaks, you cannot
count on the Romanians building everything square. If you square up your canopy
bows on the Yaks, you may be staring at some unsightly gaps between the slider
and stationary pieces when finished. We advise customers to build a jig,
if they are going to rebuild their canopies.
~ Cracking around the drilled holes is a big problem and can be avoided by:
Using a plexiglass drill
Using SOFT rivets, not Hard rivets
I like the idea of the bushings, but as a business, I know my customers
would not be willing to foot the bill for that detail of work. Aerotrader
will rebuild canopies. They drill and then reheat
the plexiglass to stress relieve around the holes. I like this idea and
I will have this done when I
rebuild the canopies on our Yak.
It is helpful to take measurements off of the stationary pieces to slider
canopy bows before you remove everything.
I stock new canopy bearings.
Yak 52 Control Cables:
Dennis, I have them in stock. Please contact me off list.
Oil leaks:
Over and over again, I hear people say "Oh well, it's a radial engine. If
it doesn't leak oil, there is something wrong." Wrong. The M-14P is a relatively
"dry" engine. My experience is that most customers buy a Yak or CJ with
little radial engine experience behind them. It is not a flat engine that you
have your mechanic inspect at annual every year. The M-14P requires preventative
maintenance in terms of keeping nuts torqued, replacing bad valve cover
gaskets, etc. Bud Harrell wrote a very good booklet on operating radials, a
few years back. I think he charged $5 or $10 for it. A worthwhile read.......
and also the M-14P Maintenance Manual!

Frances is a little lower than we had hoped. It looks like she will
only be about 120nm N of us at closest approach tomorrow rather than
the 200nm it looked like we were going to get. We expect to see
30kt-50kt winds and some rain.
If you don't hear from me on Wednesday you will know that we didn't
fare well.

Many of you all know and have flown with my son Alex.
This weekend he finally got me to take him to Florida to fly with a glider
instructor friend.
On Sunday he solo'd. Who'd think that 14 year olds can do that?
Even though I know he's a good stick already, it sure made me nervous!
It was a proud day for him and me.

Hope everyone got to watch it. It will be on again at 11pm PST on the History
Channel "Tactical to Practical".
I thought they did and excellent job of showing ALL RED STAR plus CJ's and Yak
52's in the air. They mentioned the group several times.
Drew was a star of the show with Harry "Hairball" Hirschman doing several
interviews and John "Hitman" Hilterman and the cheesecake of the show. Keith
"Frosty" Frost and the hero of the show Michael "Freezer" Lloyd for allowing
the star to shoot him down...
Sal Rubino Jr was a great addition to the ALL RED STAR team with fantastic fly
bys and donation of his rare MIG 21. AWESOME JOB..
Over all I thought they did an excellent job showing the ALL RED STAR aircraft
and our mission.
Great Job ALL RED STAR and TEAM....Now lets start the Dog Fighting and Tach
Form September 30-Oct 3rd at South County Airport (Q99 or E16) You really need
to come...
Fights on ...Fights on.....
