I have just purchased a used engine and am studying the illustrated parts book
again. Is the crankcase pressurization and oil leak caused by the supercharger,
referring to the sleeve and split ring type seal on the impeller shaft? What
gears are changed to change the drive ratio of the impeller?

I watched last night, but thought that was just a preview. It showed some
ACM in 52's and some Mig-21 fly-by's. I thought the entire hour was devoted
to Red Star and was expecting to see more tonight.
Good footage either way.... you guys have way too much fun on the left
coast.

Hey List,
I just bought a Yak 52 and am looking for a qualified instructor somewhere
in the Ohio Indiana Kentucky area. I have flown acro for a few years, done a
contest or two, and fly a buddies Pitts semi-frequently, so I'm not a COMPLETE
newbie, but I don't know a thing about acro in a Yak and have heard all the
horror stories. I keep hearing the same names over and over, like Segei Boriak
and Vladimere Radomoski. Do you guys know where these guy are based or how
to get in touch with them? Thanks.

Jay;
The last I have on Vladimir Radomski is 215-698-7958 he lives in the
Philadelphia area. I've flown with him, he is great, taught me in my
-52. Nikolai Timofeev is in Ocala, Florida and goes anywhere.
niktim@earthlink.net I've flown with and been critiqued by Nik he is
also great and instruction is his living along with maintaining
Sukhoi/Yak aircraft. Vladimir flys for a Regional full time.
Please if you contact either "Ricky B" from Colorado says hello
Thanks, Rick

I flew with Sergei Boriak this summer at MTW and really enjoyed it. He is
very capable and will teach you alot in a short period of time. He will fly
as much as you can stand and he knows the Yak well. I would highly
recommend him. He lives in Fairfax, Va. I have his cell phone number filed
away at home - I will try to email you directly. Otherwise you can check
the Fairfax directory assist for a home number.

Thanks, and I do have Sergei's info at home. (Must have missed it in my
last PDA Hot Sync)Please don't get me wrong... I have met and talked at
length with Sergei as he worked with friends in TUS. I would fly and
train with him in a heartbeat - the opportunity has not availed
itself...yet. Sergei is great and all the people he has worked with
(Unlimited in TUS) love him, that I know of.
Respectfully, Rick

BTW folks, with all the events I just realised there has not been a
mention of the recent world champs held in Sweden.
I have a personal reason for bringing it up - it was won by Glen Dell
from South Africa. We are all understandably very pleased and proud of
this, and hope it will help aerobatic flying here is SA by way of
interest, sponsorship etc., which is sadly lacking to say the least.
In the aerobatic vein but not Yak related, Glen is also involved in
developing a new aerobatic aircraft here called a Slick 360 - the
prototype flys really well, good roll rate, very good climb, etc. etc.
We flew formo back from a practice session about 6 weeks ago (myself & a
friend in my 52 & Glen in the Slick), nearing our home base we split to
join a busy pattern, he opened up and just accelerated away &
disappeared. On 200HP. Makes me want to cut a few feet off each wing
on the Yak.

Subject: | Yak 55M - low prop tip ground clearance |
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Royden Heays" <heaysr@telus.net>
The gear on my Yak 55M is spread a little, to the extent that the static
ground clearance to the Russian 2 bladed prop is only 14 inches. That
prop is 240 cm dia. The book static ground clearance is stated to be
16.1".
I think there are 2 reasons for the reduced clearance.
1 The USA tires (on Russian rims) are rated to 30 psi max,
whereas the book value for tire pressure on Russian tires is between 37
to 47 psi (from memory). The higher pressure makes the aircraft stand
taller and improves the ground clearance.
2 Viewed from the front the wheels are splayed indicating that
the titanium gear has been sprung a little.
Does anybody have a fix for this? One thought is shimming the gear at
upper attach point. Another is to put in vertical wedges in where the
wheel assembly bolts onto the gear in the same way that horizontal
wedges are used to control toe in.
The long term aim is to replace the 2 blade V-period prop for a 3 blade
MT (250 cm to 260 cm) or Whirlwind prop (256 cm) but that will not leave
a comfortable ground clearance, without gear extenders.
