Build a set of extensions and bolt standard 6.0x6 axles on. Replace the Russian
wheels with Cleveland wheels and brakes (the brake line will work with an AN-4
fitting). I did this conversion 8 years ago and run a custom MTV-3 with 265cm
blades - no problems.

Yak-55 Gear
"Spreading" of 55 gear is common, particularly if landed a bit hard.
We have found the only long-term solution is to remove the undercarriage, and take
it to an engineering firm with a big hydraulic press, and re-set the gear.
The titanium is springy and this process doesn't in any way seem to weaken it,
and effectively brings it back to new.
In terms of 3-blade propellers, they will always give a far better performance
than the Russian 2-blade. However, even with the correct gear, the 260cm MT prop
is definitely too long.

We lucked out. Frances was far enough north that all we got on St.
Thomas was a little rain and some 30 kt wind gusts (at least that is
what my wind instruments on the boat registered).
Now Frances is on the way through the Turks & Caicos and Bahamas to
Florida. Are you guys starting to get ready? The current track has it
hitting the Ft. Pierce/Vero Beach area at 8AM on Saturday. Daytona
Beach will be on the bad side. Pappy, this means you are pretty darned
close to the projected track.

Current projected track brings it right over my head! But it doesnt matter
where it makes landfall, this monster is bigger than the state of Florida.
Will just have to hang on and hope for the best.

Swamp Dragons, I'm probably going to head out with the bird again,
probably Friday. If anyone else wants to join on my wing, let me know.
Leaving Flagler Beach and heading west.
Good luck to all

It is pretty big and it is expected to intensify some. Time to batten

So where are you going to fly your airplane to get out of the way?

I really appreciate all the offers, you guys are the best . But My hangar is
built like a brick out house I'm in the center of the state and there are no
large trees near me. Trust me when I tell you that my house and hangar were
constructed to withstand 130 MPH winds. Its all stick built, with 2x10
vertical beams, with 2x8 rafters, and 2x6 ceiling joists. Then I have double
the number of rafters as usual , all joists are lag bolted and glued to the
rafters, and the 1 1/4 inch plywood sheathing is screwd and glued to the
rafters. Then there are steel 1" rods every 36" which hold the roof to the
slab, then there are the 4x4 aluminum 90 degree angle brckaets on the
outside of the house which further attach the roof to the walls. I have
reinforced Highfold doors, with stainless attach points in my aprons which I
use to tie down the doors to keep them from blowing in. My house is buit
equally robust. The guy who built this place was some ecentric machinest
from up North, and really went bezerk when he built this place, everything
is double code. He spent 9 years building it himself.
Ask Pappy or Craig, they've seen this place.
The joke here at the air ranch is that my place is the storm shelter and
this is where everyone is coming.
Plus with my 30KW propane generator and 200 gal tank, I'll be just fine.
I really do appreciate all your concern, but the truth is, unless I run to
Arizona, this storm can do damage anywhere in the SE.
Thanks
Ernie

Well, if you decide to leave one behind to take its chances in the
bunker and fly the other two out, I will be happy to help.
BTW, this goes for anyone else who needs help moving their airplane(s)

Anyone who wants to leave FL (don't forget....last one out is responsible
for turning out the lights), you are more than welcome to come to
Montgomery, AL here at the Wetumpka Airport, 08A. Although we won't have
enough hanger space, at least you'll be out of harms way. I'll provide the
ground transportation for anyone who shows up. And the avgas here is
$2.54/gal. Call me at any of the telephone numbers below if you decide you
want out of harms way. I'm here to help so don't hesitate to ask.

Yakinators
Talked to my parents today and they are in Vero Beach. They say Francis
is going to go right for them but have decided to stay. They recently
retired to Florida and don't have allot of experience with Hurricanes so
I'm asking the more experience persons on this list about their opinion
of staying and riding out the storm. I hear it's going to be a bad one.
With the reported strength of this storm is staying a good/bad idea?
If I can convince them to leave does anyone have a place for them to
camp out for a night or two?
Thanks in advance for any help/answers/opinions.

Frank, tell your parents to board up and go someplace else. This is a
*serious* storm. The chances for serious property loss and
threat-to-life is *very* high. They could be injured or killed. Tell
them in no uncertain terms to evacuate. Grab the really valuable
family papers and go.

I am a bit far away to help but would if I could.

Kelley is WRONG...... Cee Bailey's is not bad glass and is the same thickness
as LP Aero. I have both glass. They both have issues in the install but poor
installation is what causes cracked glass not the glass. I have had several
tinted glass installations over the years and it is BAD installation that
causes cracking. Use plexi drills, over size the holes, and use a silicon or
nylon washer for the hole and it will not crack.
I never had a crack in four installations. Do it right the first time. It will
pay off. Good luck and take your time during install.

I have installed canopies on 3 cjs and Doug Sapp has a guy that makes the
right thickness for all the canopies. It takes me about 120 hours to do a
complete set. The key to fitting the canopies to close is to make sure all
the bows are square starting at the front and working aft. I would not
install a canopy from C BAILEY. They are not the right thickness and will
crack during assembly or soon after.
