--> Yak-List message posted by: "Jeff Linebaugh" <jefflinebaugh@earthlink.net> I am not endorsing any product...just making a report.... We share a hangar with a Yak 52...a couple of years ago they installed VGs on it, and the results were very impressive... The biggest difference was apparently when they put VGs on the vertical stabilizer just forward of the rudder. It improved low speed rudder effectiveness, and substantially reduced rudder forces in spins... I think if I had a -52 I sure would consider them! Jeff Linebaugh

--> Yak-List message posted by: FamilyGage@aol.com Well, it seems like Spruce Creek is not this place to be this year. The eye of Charley passed directly over us. There was tremendous wind and tree damage. The community spent the week with chain saws, and FEMA as truly great with hauling out the giant oaks and palms. Just as things began to calm down, here came Frances. Although the eye was south of us, and this damned storm moved so slowly, we have had almost constant wind and rain squalls for over 48 hours. The part that is so frustrating, is that even though the storm is in the Gulf, we are still getting wind, rain, and tornados. My hangar took a beating on the roof and flooding. My plane is still at GeSoCo in VT. The crews are already out this morning cutting up this round of fallen trees. Best to All, Ray Gage

--> Yak-List message posted by: "cpayne1@joimail.com" <cpayne1@matronics.com> Well phone service just came back, the 10" of rainfall flooded the local loop terminator just down the street from me. Seems it was built in the mid-90's when managers were richly reward for "innovation"; read: cut corners and get a bigger bonus. Great going Verizon, put the station 6 foot below grade.... The airport owner tells me the hangers are still there but I'll need my hip boots to get in there. Oh well, it's been a month since my last landing, a "soft field" that skidded a couple hundred feet in the mud. I had a chance to go over the airplane in a 2nd annual. What I found was scary. M-14P Conversions - if you have the oil tank shutoff valve and motor from the helicopter engine, be careful about cracking around the outlet boss. Even though I had a .050 plate welded around the bosses, There still was almost 330 degrees of crack and embrittlement. This time I used 1/8" plate to reinforce. Craig Payne

--> Yak-List message posted by: cjpilot710@aol.com Troops, Presently at a Merrot on Long Island, NY, flying the B-24. Will try to get home to Florida tomorrow. Will have to fly the B-24 to Gorton, CT. and drive to BDL. Go BDL to ORD in the evening. Over nite in ORD than catch an AM flight to JAX than find a way home from there. Evidently my wife can't get to me from home and the telephone are out down there. Cell phone too in our area. I know they are OK but just no contact yet. Should arrive in JAX about 1245 on the 8th. When I last talked to her this morning, there was lots of water everywhere and the power was off. Than we evidently lost phone service too. Should be a real odyssey tomorrow, but I need to meet the next hurricane ("E" something). Jim Goolsby
