Folks,
The hangar here in Flagler Beach is standing and my CJ is just fine.
One of the old hangars blew out the side and had some interior damage,
but the guy was using it as a junk pile anyway, so no "real" damage.
LOTS of rain, and wind up to 80 kts. Trees are down and the canals are
all flooded. But all in all, everything looks like it survived. Many
roofs blown off on the beach, the barrier island was evacuated on
Friday. No one hurt as far as I know. What a mess though.........
Time to go clean up and get ready for IVAN!

I tried sending out reports during the storm, but just as I was finisheing the
email, the power would go off. By the time I had reverted to generator power my
IP connection went tits up.
My handyd dandy little radio shack weather monitoring station reported on Sat,
sustained winds of 30 mph with a peak gust on Sat at 1:45pm EST of 49 mph. baromoter
went as low as 29.45 or 990 mb's, rain gage was showing .76" per hour until
wind knocked it over. Continued blowing that way till early ysterday morning.
Slight roof damage here at Leeward, some downed trees, a few hangars that
lost all shingles had collapsed ceilings and crap in the hangar. Greater Ocala
and Belleveiew took a beating with LOTS of downed trees. We lost power Sat afternoon,
just got it back early this morning.
I only lost a few shingles off the house, hangar faired just fine except I suggest
anyone facing strong winds to always secure the doors, it was scarey to see
how far they bow in with just 30 mph winds. I had 2 3000lb straps on each door
secured into the apron. My pool fence blew in a few panels from the north facing
side, and I got some water in the hangar floor. Sustained 30 + mph winds
will push water in through any nook and cranney in the hangar doors, in my case
the seam between the top and bottom door halves.
We're still getting some of the lower eastern rain bands this morning but its starting
to brighten up. All in all we all faired well here.
And the mulch didnt move an inch :)
And now we get ready for Ivan.

All RPA Members:
Sorry, here are the dates for Lamar.
Wednesday the 15th - Sunday the 19th. I had two check pilots scheduled but
one is not coming for sure and the other is waiting on a trip trade at work. If
you are interested in helping out please let me know. There will still be
plenty to do and we have several Lead pilots who can provide Rec. rides.

David,
As you know, Flagler is about twenty miles north of DAB. They had the same
problems that we did. No power, high winds and rain for over 48 hours, no
gas available, no ice no water, and tremendous flooding. We have flooded areas
that will just get worse downstream for the next week. It will take months
to get back to normal. If one's home got through the winds, then the
flooding caused damage.
Worse, they forecast thunder storms in our area everyday.

Sean Carroll and I, along with the rest of the crew at Kimble's Aviation, are in
the final stages of planning the autumn edition of the Redstar Pilots' Association's
Eastern US Gathering! The dates for the fly-in are Thursday, 14 Oct through
Sunday, 17 Oct. and will once again be hosted by Kimble's Aviation at the
Sussex County Airport (KGED), in Georgetown, Delaware.
Like our last event at Georgetown, we will primarily focus on formation flying,
and getting as many recommendation rides and checkrides as possible. We will
run a ground school for any new formation pilots who wish to attend as well as
lead pilot ground training.
For all the information, and to be put on the invitation list, please contact me
(Adrian Belinne) at Belinne@hotmail.com, or (240) 375-3423
Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves tremendously last time, so think about anyone
else that might be interested in bringing their YAK-52 or CJ-6 to this event
and invite them, too. If you know someone that doesn't own one of these airplanes,
but might be in the market, make sure you invite them to join us so that
they can consider joining our elite(?) (perhaps motley is a better word...)
corps, too.
Some examples of the world class presentations we are considering include;
How To Clean Your Plane In Under 5 Minutes
By Dr. Ski "Who took my chamois" Slawinsky
Enhancing Your Tactical Weather Decision Analysis Skills
By Steve "It's just a little low scud" Dalton
The Art of Advance Formation Flying in CJ and Yak Aircraft
By Mike "Keep that damn plane away from me" Filucci

It looks like Ivan is giving us a wide berth. I was quite worried and
spent yesterday and part of today preparing the spot for my boat in a
protected mangrove swamp. I planned to fly the Comanche out tomorrow
but now it won't be necessary.
I certainly hope that Ivan's more southerly track will make it miss
Florida. You guys have had more than enough.
