Perhaps now your politicians (and people) will recognise global warming is
a FACT and that it DOES bring adverse weather conditions. People need to get
there head out of the sand and sign up to the Kyoto (spelling?) agreement to
try and slow the effects of the pollution being unnecessarily caused in USA.
As you see its not only a European problem.
I bet its an issue not even being raised in the coming elections.
How's that for a political statement :>)) Think hard about it, we are all
affected and the next generations especially.
IVAN, does he come from the east?
We have our WX problems also. Etc etc . Renewable sources of energy are
taking hold here with wind turbines, some with blades 350 AGL.

Folks,
The hangar here in Flagler Beach is standing and my CJ is just fine.
One of the old hangars blew out the side and had some interior damage, but
the guy was using it as a junk pile anyway, so no "real" damage.
LOTS of rain, and wind up to 80 kts. Trees are down and the canals are all
flooded. But all in all, everything looks like it survived. Many roofs
blown off on the beach, the barrier island was evacuated on Friday. No one
hurt as far as I know. What a mess though.........
Time to go clean up and get ready for IVAN!
Best regards, fly safe-Mark Jefferies

And if you look at it historically, this sort of thing, i.e a spate of
hurricanes, happens pretty regularly. The warming of the Atlantic
tropical seas which spawns the hurricanes is more of a function of an
El Nio/La Nia cycle than global warming it seems to me.

Oh, it is a USA-caused problem? Gosh! We are *such* bad people over
here. I don't know *how* the rest of the world stands us.
IMHO people who fly airplanes for the sheer joy of it (like 100% of
this list -- you and me included) should not cast stones about
unnecessary consumption of fossil fuels and their concomitant side
effects.

Nope.

Mostly it is a problem with too many people.

All hurricanes do.

Just make sure you understand the ramifications of those too. They
don't necessarily do what you think they do.

Yakinators
Opinions needed!
Filled my front tire to spec and the nose gear started to shimmy. A
close look at the anti-shimmy components and linkages reveals a loose
tolerance stack up to the point where I have maybe 1/2 inch of movement
side to side without any damping action.
In analyzing the existing design, it appears that the damping action is
least where it is needed most, while tracking straight ahead.
Looks like I have two choices. I can replace the parts or redesign the
system to use something like the Lord Shimmy Damper. I like the idea of
a redesign as the current system looks overly complex and prone to
premature wear.
Has anyone designed a retrofit kit or alternate installation to the
stock system? If so I'd like to get info on how it was done.
Alternatively, does anyone have the replacement parts?
Thanks In advance!

Mark;
A study of the history of hurricanes will reveal that we are repeating a
pattern that last was with us in the 50's. This pattern is going to be
with us until 2010. Like many things in nature, the frequency and
intensity of hurricanes also have a cyclical nature to them.
A more appropriate indication of global warming is the massive die-off
of coniferous trees at higher elevations. This is occurring around the
world and is currently explained away, by various authorities, as the
result of insect infestations or the result of pollution that deposits
nitrogen compounds in the soil thus causing late season growth of new
leaves/needles that then die off during freezing winter conditions.
Personally, I think the trees have been weakened as a result of less
atmospheric protection from the sun's rays and that this leads to the
insect infestations. But this won't be proven out until we get more data
from the recently launched EOS (Earth Observation Satellite).
Even then, if this is proved true, I suspect this information will be
withheld from the general public due to it's dire implications. During
the days following 911, a number of scientists used the opportunity of
no high altitude jet traffic to prove that the jets had an effect on the
earth's weather patterns. That is why I commented on Bryan's
contribution to the destruction of the environment :)
During the 1960's President Kennedy mobilized America to "put a man on
the moon within this decade". America's energy, it's resources, it's
people were channeled to accomplish this mission and we succeeded.
Today, we need that same "moon shot" level of commitment from a strong
leader to develop alternate forms of energy.
With the ever growing use of fossil fuels by developing countries
(imagine every person in China or Africa with an automobile) the
environmental/atmospheric damage will become undeniable by even the most
optimistic of scientists. Fossil fuels need to go if for no other reason
than to deny the middle east muslims the resources they would use to
destroy us.

Hello!
I am need of a left aileron for a Yak 52. Fabric condition is of no concern, as
it will be recovered. Please contact me offlist. 858-292-7222.

Brian,
Your are absolutely correct on this global warming issue.
To many bodies on the planet and not enough technology
to offset their impact on the environment.
I don't know of anyone, except possibly a rabid tree hugger, that would consider
turning over this economy, and our standard of living, to an organization that
mirrors the UN.

We should all convert our airplanes to run on manure. This would reduce the
methane content in the atmosphere which is a green house gas. It has been
proven that cow farts alone contribute to 10% of the worlds methane
production. If we could only harness these farts and create some sort of
fart injection system, I beleive we could get an increase in horsepower and
a reduction in green house gasses by burning these farts and turning them
into harmless carbon monoxide gas which only kills people. If we then learn
to capture our exhaust, and release them over poplulations of less
desireable people, then we would really be on the road to environmental
responsibility.
Also I think we should pay more attention to the plankton. Millions of these
defensless creatures are killed by whales every year. And its a known fact
that whale oil could lower our dependance on fossil fuels. So my motto is
recycle farts, kill the whales, save the plankton, starve Opec and burn
whale oil!

Brian,
The Democrats are absolutely correct! Global warming is primary cause of
hurricanes and forest fires. Too many Republicans driving large SUV's and
flying foreign aircraft.
