Well you will be happy to know that I have done my part! No large SUV
for me. I am driving a *small* SUV and right now all I am flying is a
domestic aircraft that has been recycled!
As for only Republicans driving SUVs, read on. On this subject I got
one of the best laughs in my life in the heartland of liberal values.
I used to fly to work every day from Cameron Park, CA, to Palo Alto. I
worked in Menlo Park. Palo Alto is the home of Stanford University and
has a distinct liberal bias. The people of liberal bent who have a
*LOT* of money then move from Palo Alto to Menlo Park and Atherton.
Some years ago I ended up with a Fiat X1/9 in a convoluted trade so I
kept that as my airport car at Palo Alto. As I was driving to work
from PAO I stopped at a traffic light behind a Lincoln Navigator, whose
rear bumper was at my eye level. Here I was treated to a pantheon of
bumper stickers championing various worthy causes. "Earth First"
proclaimed one. Others touted "Greenpeace", "Save the Whales", and
"Stop The Oil Drilling in California." The incongruity of this
gas-guzzling behemoth admonishing the world to stop drilling for oil
had me in almost instant hysterics. I almost missed the light I was
laughing so hard. Only in California.

Hey Folks,
I'm in the process of buying a Yak 52, in which I plan to compete in
advanced category acro. What I'm wondering is, am I the only one doing this? I
haven't heard anybody talking about contest flying in the 52. Seems like there
should be a bunch of us out there.
For those who gave me the contact numbers for Sergei, thanks. I called him
yesterday and had fun talking to him. What a nice guy. Trying to set up a date
to hook up with him in October and get some serious coaching in the Yak's
habits.
Take care.

fart injection system, I believe we could get an increase in horsepower and
a reduction in green house gasses by burning these farts and turning them

No...you've got it all wrong. We should destroy our gas-guzzling airplanes

generated by people who insist on opining on matters concerning which they have
absolutely no knowledge or training. There may be even more generated by
unthankful former allies who, now that their own national prominence has long
passed, spitefully blame the world's problems on the United States. It's
especially poignant when they do so in English or French, instead of the German

Japanese they would be speaking today if not for the valiant sacrifice of my

I do aerobatics in my 52 through the intermediate figures. The problem with
today's advanced maneuvers are the negative elements. The 52 has a hard time
making negative (high) g look nice (although it does a very nice inverted
flick).
I agree - it would be nice to see more 52's in competition - I'm working on
it - have at it!

Guys and Gals,
I've got a neighbor here where I live that would like to get into a CJ. Please
forward pics and spec to my email address. He's looking for a normal plane, not
a $500K executive conversion with built in latte machine, just a nice clean
CJ with low hours and price.

Mark,
I think you must be thinking of another Jay. I just bought my Yak from Tom
Johnson in PHX. If all goes well I will be flying it home Sept. 29th.
In my first e mail I should have said, "compete UP TO advanced" not "IN
advanced." I plan on starting in intermediate for a year or two. I last did
sportsman a few years ago in a Citabria and after flying the Yak, I don't believe
that intermediate should be a problem at all. Advanced seems like it COULD be
as high as a 52 can be competitive.

Jay;
I competed in a Yak-52 from 9/96 to 9/98 up to and including US
Nationals in Intermediate in '98. I got all my "awards patches" through
Advanced in the -52. I flew through Unlimited in my Yak-55 98-2000 and
now fly Unlimited in SU-29.
Your work is cut out for you to be competitive in Advanced in Yak-52.
Sea Level will help and get used to 101% (most of the -52 drivers cringe
at that power setting). Build a scoop for the carb air intake to get
some ram effect and increased MP. I think that coming out of something
"up" then doing an inside or outside roller will be challenging for your
-52.
I'm the only one that I know of that did so much competitive akro with
my -52, even had sight gauges on both wings. Written up in original Yak
Driver mag by Dr. Bud Harrell. 10 contests or so in that 2 years and
about that many trophies. Colorado, Kansas, Texas, Arizona. I believe I
was the first to "do" US Nationals in a Yak-52 at any level. She is a
great akro plane (I'll own another - someday). Keep the List informed
as to how you do, please.
With so many personal pronouns in the last statements maybe we can hear
from -52 drivers that will knock me off my self proclaimed perch :-)
Please.
Respectfully, Rick

Well, from a technical aspect, we can process the manure to power our
aircraft and then use what is left for the Yak-list. More recycling.

Troops and family,
We're still here! Frances did a better number on us than Charlie. No phone
nor electricity for 4 days. Lots of tree stuff to clean up but house and
hangar in good shape. Our runway is flooded somewhat and there is water across
the road out front. Brings back the days as a very young kid when we had
neither a/c nor flood control.
I've got 3 or 4 days of yard work to do before I can get back to work on the
CJ.
Now we face "Ivan" and he's a nasty one.
