Congressman Weiner is a very liberal Democrat from New York on the
Transportation Committee. (My father did not determine if he is on the
aviation subcommittee yet.) It seems that the bill he introduced is
nothing more than what we suspected, a way for the congressman to curry
favor with his constituency by playing on their fear, uncertainty, and
doubt in an election year. There is no chance that this bill will be
voted out of committee in this session so it is effectively dead.
Remember, it is an election year and they are in a hurry to leave so
they can get out to their districts to campaign.
Congressman Weiner will wave the bill in front of the voters and tell
them how hard he tried to protect them but the rest of those bastards
weren't interested but *HE* had their best interests at heart so would
they please reelect him.
I hope he is accident prone.

I have to comment on the YAK-52 and Sergei Boriak. Sergei was just here
(New Bern, N.C.) last week for three days. He coached Hubie Tolson
(Unlimited Suke-26), Timmy Brothers & Joe Barker In Hubie's & Joe's just
rebuilt YAK-52..... totally new to any kind of aerobatics in ANYTHING, and
lastly my humble rookie self in my YAK-50.
I talked with Sergei about the aerodynamics of certain maneuvers for hours.
His grasp of what is going on with the airplane both in theory and actually
in the air is unsurpassed. His ability to teach is highly developed and he
can tailor his approach to each and every student. Learning from this gent
is like a baby trying to suck milk from a fire-hose!
Sergei took one young man who had zero training, and in three days had him
practicing the whole Sportsman Routine. Sergei also does the most
impressive and graceful gyroscopic tumbling routines in the 52 that you can
ever imagine. That big ole heavy slow moving 52 going almost SLOWLY end
over end was awe-inspiring! Ditto the tail-slides.
And yes... he is a NICE GUY. Also don't sell him short in the field of
Electronics and even A&P skills, although Vladimir Yastremski has him there.
He also has quite a history BEFORE "aerobatics" which is a lot of fun to
hear about.
I am not selling any of the other great pilots and coaches short... but
..... Sergei makes learning not only a complete experience, but a lot of fun
too.

Hey Folks,
I'm in the process of buying a Yak 52, in which I plan to compete in
advanced category acro. What I'm wondering is, am I the only one doing this?
I
haven't heard anybody talking about contest flying in the 52. Seems like
there
should be a bunch of us out there.
For those who gave me the contact numbers for Sergei, thanks. I called him
yesterday and had fun talking to him. What a nice guy. Trying to set up a
date
to hook up with him in October and get some serious coaching in the Yak's
habits.
Take care.

Certainly one of Sergei's most delightful talents is his ability to instill
confidence in the student. During the hour I spent with him at MTW a year
ago, I fearlessly was willing to try anything absolutely confident in the
knowledge that no matter how badly I screwed-up the manuever, Sergei would save
our
butts. Now, ask me if I'm doing the same stuff on my own today. ...Blitz
