Well the event went off without a hitch - to the contrary everything was
wonderful in 85F CAVU weather. Thanks to Mike and Julie Filucci we got
another Lead (Mark Williston) qualified and two more on the way with two
T-28 guys on their way to Wing qualification and a lot of great flying.
Sat BBQ in Walt's hangar was lots of fun with good people, good food and
great music; and this years rendition of Walt's very own "Danny Boy".
Y'all plan for next year - the last weekend of Sep.
Cheers,
Paul Dumoret

Yaksters;
I'm in need of new prop blades for my 52. Anybody got a rebuildable or
working set they'd like to part with?

Accelerator Jet
I have seen with interest correspondence on this.
In my humble opinion blocking the jet is a rather crude solution.
The AK14 carburettor is very sophisticated, and unfortunately, few people understand
either its workings, or how to set it up.
The accelerator jet has the specific purpose of momentarily increasing the richness
of the mixture to avoid hesitation on opening the throttle. Clearly too
much fuel at this stage can also cause a hesitation through a "rich cut."
The manufacturers get round this by having six different jets, which are interchangeable
(ranging from 0.9mm to 1.4mm).
I can see that an engine with a very large jet and therefore noticeable rich hesitation
will improve by having the jet blanked off completely, but generally
it has got to be a far better solution to install the correct jet!
A well set up M14P will generally run like a sewing machine - sadly very few are!

If I take my jet out and measure it, do you have different jet sizes.

Richard;
I performed the carb mod and the difference was noticeable. For example,
during startup I had to fiddle with the throttle a whole lot less. I
could set the warm up idle right at 42% and I used to have to keep it
slightly above 45% to keep it running when cold.

Richard,
Unfortunately, we have not been able to acquire any of the jet kits here in
the US for experimenting with and eliminating the hesitation using the
recommended procedures. The only solution has been the aforementioned.
Although crude, it does work and work well. If you have a source for the
jet kits, please let all of know where we can acquire them.
Regards,
Dennis

Aubrey,
There is suppose to be a jet kit with different sizes. However, I have
never been able to find one. The fix works well.

Anyone who has asked me to include them on the list should have received the details
for the Georgetown flyin on 14 Oct. For anyone else that is interested,
the hotel is
Atlantic Inn
210 E. DuPont Highway
Millsboro, DE 19966
302-934-6711
IMPORTANT: The deadline to reserve a room is 6 Oct. After that they will release
the rooms and hotel rooms in this area tend to go for at least $150/nt. To
reserve your room you must call the hotel and hold a room in your name with a
credit card. Ask for the Redstar Pilot's Association block. There are rooms with
two double beds for those of you that would like to share ($69/nt + tax) and
King rooms with fridge ($79/nt + tax) for those that want something nicer.
We are going to take care of event registration at the event as everyone arrives.

Troops & Family,
Back on line. Got power this afternoon. Much faster (28 hours) than the
last hurricane - er - Frances? Ivan? God! they are being to run together! Lost
a big chunk of that big oak behind the house. Will have to repair some
shingles. Dropped a 4x8 by 3/4 piece of plywood on my left big toe. I'm sure
its
broke. Hurts like hell!
Yesterday afternoon was the worst here. While it was blowing real good, I
went and stood on one of my neighbors floating dock out on the pond. First I
had to wade in knee deep water just to get to the peir that led to it. I was
able to experience the full impact of the wind and rain. Quite exhilarating
really. You could actually see the vortices drop down and suck up water from the
pond. They would only last 2 or 3 seconds. You could also see the wind
shears on the pond surface, sometime only ten feet away doing at least 10 or 20
mph faster than the sustain 40 mph wind I was standing in!
Compared to Craig and Ernie who were alot closer, the eye only came with 60
nm of here. Close enough for me guys.
Will try to get repairs done before Wednesday.
