person of advanced age. Fussy old fart.

Yep that's the word. The FAA guy was just an old curmudgeon. My spelling
ability is direct result of a period in education went it was thought children
could memorize all words. I never was taught to spell phonetically.

Maybe it wasn't just the phonetics, them stone tablet
spelling books were mighty heavy for a small lad to haul
around in those days...
