Jay, you are very right...I should have mentioned Gabby! Not only did he
save the day for Alan, but he must have been an incredible help as your
ground crewman! ...and the video he took properly documented our feat!
BTW....anyone who has pictures or video to share of SkyFest, I sure would
like to get copies...!
Thanks,

Did anyone take any pictures? If so I'd like a few scanned copies to post to the
Rat Squadron website.
Sorry George and I had to bolt. The plan was for him to fly the Stack Doll in
Sunday's show and me to RTB Sat night in his Mooney. But because the front brake
cable snapped it could only be flown from the back. George has never checked
out in the back so I flew it back to Huntsville with Gabby in front. (Actually
he flew it mostly.) In case anyone is wondering why we aborted the taxi-out
as the group was preparing for the raid, here's what happened. I found that
I did not have any braking from the rear cockpit even though I had good pressure
and a tight cable. I shut it down and we pushed it back. George investigated
and found that a small ring shaped housing located under the floor of
the rear cockpit had dropped a couple of inches due to a lack of tension because
the broken front brake cable had been removed. If he lifted the housing with
his finger the rear brakes worked. We found some safety wire and secured the
housing and flew home.
It was a great time. I was impressed with the formation skills of the entire group.
Alan

A Big Thanks to the 16 guys that came out for the Jackson, TN airshow last
weekend. I am very proud of how we did...we put on a good show with great
looking formations, got to fly for "free", and had a GREAT time.... oh...and
we all learned a few things! So far I have not received a call to rake up toilet
paper either!
...and I agree with Jim; curmudgeon was spelled "FAA" on Saturday. For
what it is worth, this particular inspector is notoriously well known throughout
the area. I was particularly proud of how our group handled the situation
and diffused it. I believe the only fall-out that might occur will be on the
FAA guy himself. For Yakers wondering what happened, it had nothing to do with
paperwork, or our airplanes, or our group, it was just an ill-perceived smoke
hazard by the Fed.
We need to pursue more airshow events for like this one for RPA members.
It was fun, mostly free, and we did a great service to the community! (Last
I heard, the charities had made over $40K from the show.) I believe the RPA needs
to get more involved in ICAS, and set up a booth at the convention as an
airshow act offering. If we received a "fee" for putting on a show, it could
mean extra money for the RPA to put on clinics and grow the organization. Craig
Payne also floated another idea to try...but I will let him come forward with
that idea...
Again, thanks to the following guys for a GREAT weekend!

I think yours was the only digital camcorder. Can you edit out a couple of
clips to show how good we looked?

Sierra Hotel Dudes;
Well now, you've been a wingman for a few years with several
airshow performances behind you. Aerobatics is just
something that seems to happen when you and other dudes get
together for a little extended trail...that formation stuff
is just how you get to/from the practice area.
You enjoy the camaraderie of buddies who are good sticks,
but you ask yourself if there is anything more. Is there
MORE fun I can be having with my CJ/Yak?
Well Bunky, maybe there is. I have an idea for a unique
airshow act that fills the bill. Low altitude waivers should
not be required, you need not exceed 60 degree bank nor 30
degree pitch, nor 200 kts. However you will be up close and
personal with Mother Earth and other nearby aircraft.
I have a .ppt presentation for those who are interested.
Reply off list and I will send. I'm looking for solid
feedback here as I just might be looney and not even know
it.
BTW, for some reason my email bounces off certain addresses.
AOL thinks my ISP is spam so sometimes I can't get through.
However I can also fax or snail mail a diskette.
