How about a Yak 18T? M14P; 4 seats side by side front and rear; doors on
both sides; huge inside; 3630 pound gross weight; tons of baggage space;
fully retractable undercarriage; pneumatics just like the 50 or 52 AND the
added benefit of being fully aerobatic (+6, -3). I flew one in Lithuania
recently while visiting the overhaul facility I do business with. It's a
really neat airplane that your wife would enjoy. ALSO presently used by
the Lithuanian Air Force. I have a photo of one in Lithuanian Air Force
livery if you'd like me to email it to you Tim.

Get an SP91 two seats she can sit up front. 3800 ft per min climb 350 deg
per second roll plus 12 minus 11 on the push pull and more grins than you
can imagine. Mark jefferies can get one for you.

No, you just triggered something many of us were already thinking about.
You know, the funny thing is that Frank and I disagree only on the
Islamic, sorry, "raghead" problem. (Hey Frank, is that enough non-PC
for you?) But I view that as a meta-issue. If it wasn't the radical
Islamists it would be someone else. 80 years ago we were threatened by
organized crime. 65 years ago it was Japan and Germany. Then it was
the Sovunion, "Red" China, North Korea, and Vietnam. Now we are
worrying about Iran, China, and North Korea. If it isn't one damn
thing it is another. Islam is just the threat du jour. Threats didn't
begin with Islam and 9/11; they were always there. We just didn't pay
attention (or most people didn't). But that doesn't mean that the
threats are new. (I have been wondering for almost 20 years why we
weren't attacked by terrorists because we are so vulnerable and we
remain so vulnerable.) The only "solution" is a police state ala the
Iron Curtain but even then dedicated agents were able to operate.
There just isn't a solution that will provide real security.
So the real problem is our government wasting our money ostensibly to
provide security/protection that doesn't work. I love my country but I
don't have to love its stupidity and its stupidity is *hurting* me and
many of my friends as well.
So my choice is reduced freedom in the name of security but no real
security or retain our freedom and no real security. Since the "no
security" part remains the same, I choose freedom. Let me have my CCW
for the whole of the US and I will provide my own security, thank you.

Go figure!

My wife was the same way. You know what the solution was? She learned
to fly. When she started feeling uncomfortable she would fly the
airplane and in no time at all felt fine. The key is that the brain
deals with the problem of inner-ear inputs if it can do something about
it. BTW, her favorite airplane was the CJ6A because it gave her an
overwhelming feeling of strength and security.
Besides, this is a safety issue. If she is in the plane and you get
sick, she can get the airplane on the ground and get help for you.
Nothing like systems redundancy I always say.
And another possible upside is that she might LIKE to fly and want her
own airplane. (wink wink, nudge nudge)

--> Yak-List message posted by: Brian Lloyd <brianl@lloyd.com>
From the April 2004 issue of Light Plane Maintenance, page 4:
Cessna Engineering recommends avoiding welding as the primary repair
technique for repairs of minor fatigue cracks. The suggested repair
is:
1. Stop drilling both ends of the crack with a minimum .125" diameter
drill and breaking sharp edges.
2. Lightly abrade the tank surface around the crack.
3. Fabricate an external doubler from 2024 Alclad .020" thick
aluminum. The doubler should extend a minimum of .5" beyond the crack
in all direction and maintain at least .25" radius at the corners.
4. Clean the repair area and doubler with a solvent such as
Methyln-Propyl Keytone. Fay seal the doubler in place with
(MIL-S-8802) Type 1, Class B-1/2, B-2, or B-4.

Talking about religion is mostly blather. Never have so many
conflicting and unsupportable views been held so vehemently by so many
for so long.

The last digest contained 14 messages (out of the 24 total) that were of
religious or political banter that really wasn't "orthogonal to the discussion
of Yaks."
While all of us are truly passionate about our freedoms, I'm tired of having to
delete non-Yak related noise that comes from this list. Other groups I'm
involved with manage to stay on topic ... Grumman Gang, CPA, and Cardinal
Flyers for example. Every few weeks or so certain members of this group
consistently get off topic. I've had enough. I'm unsubscribing.

If anyone is interested..... I had several cracks in the aerobatic tank of
my YAK-50. The metal is so thin that welding was NOT recommended by every
person that took a look at it. The cracks were stop drilled... no doubler
was applied... just a covering of 8802 over it after a complete cleaning.
That was four years ago. I check the tank often and it is holding up well
with no further signs of cracking or leakage.
8802 is some amazing material.
