--> Yak-List message posted by: "cpayne@joimail.com" <cpayne@joimail.com> Hmmm, what I'm NOT seeing in these posts is reference to the difference between Huosai solid studs and the hollow M-14P studs. In theory, the "half-hollow" Russian studs allow some amount of distortion in the stud itself to compensate for temperature differences as well as "flex' under torque to hold better. This worked for my original Huosai engine when I replaced the loose studs with the Russian ones. Not cheap, but then pulling off the barrels isn't a really fun to do in a cold hanger at night. (I had a day job then). Craig Payne

When you >old guys die who is going to continue on?????? Us Old Guys are a tough bunch, what with vitamins, Geritol and Viagra... OTOH, pure FAST training events are now Regionalized within the RPA. Your local coordinator should be putting programs together. Here in the SE Region, we start the year with a session at Waycross GA. There are no distractions, there ain't no nut'n there but BBQ and Swamp. Sometimes the BBQ comes from the swamp. Additionally, small focused sessions are held within a local area, with only 4-6 airplanes to pack as much training into a Sat/Sun as possible. Sometimes this works best, let the trainers come to you. Just be a "good" host. Craig Payne

    Subject: CJ-6 Questionnaire
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Doug Sapp" <rvfltd@televar.com> Richard, You are forgetting one thing, we are talking about China. Few things are as they seem on the surface, nothing that is asked is solely asked for the reason indicated. After dealing with the Chinese vendors, CATIC and others for many years I can only surmise that they may be pointed in a slightly different direction than the one indicated, the questions just don't seem to be the questions one would expect if US type certification were the goal. Maybe they simply want to see exactly how many CJ driver that there really are in the US and what their contact info is. But it would seem easier to get that info from the FAA roles, where all but email info is available to all who want to take the time to look it up. You also have to understand that the Chinese are great copiers, and having a total list of all mods, which we have come up with would enable them to better know what the bulk of us may want to see on the new airframes which Fan wants to sell us, it also prevents them from having to come up with the ideas them selves. It has been my experience that certification (if there ever were any, I like Walt am not holding my breath) most likely would not be retroactive, but would start at fixed point in the serial number run and would most likely start with aircraft still residing at the factory and not with those aircraft previously imported. My personal opinion is that I for one do not want my CJ to be certified, I want to be able to modify it without having to pay through the nose for STC's, AI inspections and FAA red tape. I full well know the agony of trying to change something on my Super Cub, Bonanza, and other certified aircraft which I have owned over the years. Clean kits, oil shutoffs, aux fuel, baggage, canopies, oil filters, Cleveland nose wheels, heck even strobes would all have to be STC'd for use on the CJ if it were a certified aircraft. The cost of a new airframe is already too high to allow much if any profit to the importer after ocean freight, insurance, inland trucking, customs and production headaches. Even if I purchase from one the two organizations that are selling the new airframes (other than Fan who works for Eaglet/CATIC), the price while lower than CATIC's price is still very high and certification would only increase the cost not lower it. I am sure there is an argument that says that a certified CJ would be worth more because it would not have the flight restrictions, but I simply don't see the restrictions (as they are now) as that big of a problem. We have a good thing going the way it is now, can you imagine having to deal with the feds when you want to add smoke, baggage compartment or the other goodies we all want for out aircraft?? So, no I'll not answer the questionnaire because I really don't have any interest in a certified aircraft, and I am tired of feeding them modification ideas as they have already knocked off my aux fuel tanks. The above is just my 2 cents worth and as Brian said long ago "your mileage may vary" Last notice to all that may need something before I leave for China......I leave on the 3rd and will return on the 20th. After the 3rd you can call and leave a message, but my favorite GIB, Kathleen is coming with me this year so there will be no one minding the store. We will check our messages every other day. Best to all, Doug and Kathleen are (pretty soon) gone yakin! -----Original Message----- From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com]On Behalf Of Richard Goode Subject: Yak-List: CJ-6 Questionaire --> Yak-List message posted by: "Richard Goode" <richard.goode@russianaeros.com> Yak-List CJ-6 Questionnaire Since we in Europe do not have the fantastic advantages of a "experimental" system, I have been forced to become somewhat of an expert in the whole issue of certification. I really cannot see how the reports of, even hundreds, of satisfied users would help proper certification to FAR 23 standard! Or have I missed something? --> Yak-List message posted by: "Adrian Belinne" <belinne@hotmail.com> Tom, WRT your comment about newbie training, as the NE Regional Coordinator of the Redstar Pilot's Association, I highly suggest that you look into participating in one of the regional FAST clinics. These events are tons of fun and are really packed with loads of training geared to the brand new participant all the way up to leader workshops for the crusty old guys like Craig (no offense ;-) his words, not mine.... ). At the events that I host in DE we provide everything from beginners ground school to mass formation work to keep everyone at all levels excited and progressing. We just hosted an event for the YAK a couple of weeks ago, which was a qualified success (problems with rainy weather) and are about to host an event for the L-39 guys in Nov. I know that the All Redstar event in Merced is very popular and that Drew puts a lot of energy into making sure that lots of training gets done. If you have questions, feel free to call me or any of the regional coordinators to get more info. --> Yak-List message posted by: "Gus Fraser" <fraseg@comcast.net> You need to speak to George Coy. He has figured out how to dismantle the body from the wings. Traditionally the wings detach where the dihedral starts. This is fine but it means that it has to ship in an open container, not the best. You may have to fly it to his facility to get the strip down done. Best bit is that when it gets here he can put it together for you. Also he is a DAR so can handle the registration for you.
